Carlos Alcaraz has been involved in various activities since his historic Australian Openwin last month, where he defeated Novak Djokovic to become the youngest man to complete a Career Grand Slam. Despite the triumph, he has not competed in any tournaments since, withdrawing from the Rotterdam Open as he prepared for his return to the court at the upcoming Qatar Open.
During this period, Alcaraz took a notable detour to Bahrain to attend a Formula One pre-seasontestingevent, where he met with F1 drivers Carlos Sainz and Fernando Alonso.
Insights into Alcaraz’s Experience at Bahrain’s F1 Testing
At a press conference in Doha ahead of the Qatar Open, Alcaraz spoke about his visit to the F1 testing event in Bahrain. When asked about the possibility of driving an F1 car himself, he expressed a preference for the passenger seat, valuing the thrill without the responsibility behind the wheel.
“Well, it was a great, it was a really cool experience, to be honest,”
Alcaraz said.
“I just really like Formula 1. Because of our schedule, to attend to a race is really difficult. But right now that I had the chance to go to the testing, see how they working when they are off-season testing the car, what they’re doing with the car, just trying to be at the 100 percent for the first race. It was impressive, to be honest, to see some drivers that I just know them, and wish them the best of luck for the season.”
He added,
“And, yeah, why not? I would love to. If they’re driving, I would be more than happy to see the adrenaline that you can feel when you’re in that kind of cars, or whatever cars it is, but when you feel the real fast, you know, it’s happening.”
Alcaraz’s Earlier Prediction About Alonso’s Career
This meeting was not the first connection between Alcaraz and Fernando Alonso. Nearly three years ago, after Alcaraz’s victory over Tommy Paul at the Miami Open, he wrote “33? Soon.” on a camera lens, hinting at Alonso’s pursuit of his 33rd Formula One race win.
Alonso responded playfully on social media, saying,

“Lock this man up!!! (laughing face emojis). You’re a phenomenon! Let’s go!!!”
—Fernando Alonso
Despite Alonso’s ongoing career at age 44, that milestone victory has yet to arrive, as he has not won a race since his triumph at the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix. The 2026 season, starting next month in Melbourne, may present him with another opportunity to reach this goal.
The Significance of Alcaraz’s Cross-Sport Connection with F1
Carlos Alcaraz’s visit to the Bahrain F1 testing underscores his fascination with Formula One and highlights the increasingly visible interactions between elite sports figures across disciplines. Meeting Carlos Sainz and Fernando Alonso allowed Alcaraz to engage with a form of sport defined by high risk, speed, and precision, elements that resonate with the demands of professional tennis.
As both Alcaraz prepares to resume his tennis career and Alonso looks toward another potentially pivotal season, their interaction reflects a blend of admiration and mutual respect. Such crossovers between tennis and Formula One may foster greater public interest and provide unique insights into the mindset of top athletes navigating pressure and competition.
