Casey Mears and Anthony Alfredo Clinch Daytona 500 Spots

Casey Mears earned his place in the Daytona 500 following an intense finish in the America 250 Florida Duel races at Daytona International Speedway on Thursday night. Despite sustaining damage in a final-lap crash, Mears managed to finish eighth in the first Duel race, narrowly overcoming competitors Chandler Smith and Corey LaJoie to claim the last transfer position.

Corey LaJoie was positioned within the top five before the crash and held the final transfer spot up to Turn 3 of the final lap. Mears described the chaotic finish, saying,

“I didn’t know who was in front of me still, whether or not we made it,”

and added,

“All the guys started going nuts on the radio. I want to say hi to Trish and the kids at home. I can’t believe we’re here based on our night and the way that it went.”

While Mears emerged eighth, Chandler Smith and LaJoie finished 16th and 19th, respectively. This result marks Mears’s return to the Daytona 500 for the first time since 2019, driving for Garage 66.

Anthony Alfredo Advances to Daytona 500 with Steady Performance

In the second Duel race, Anthony Alfredo secured an 18th-place finish, enough to surpass B.J. McLeod, who placed 19th, and J.J. Yeley, who finished 22nd, thus earning a spot in the Daytona 500. Alfredo expressed the significance of the achievement, stating,

“It means everything, this is the biggest race in the world.”

Having missed the race last year, Alfredo will now make his third appearance in the Daytona 500 over three seasons, driving for Beard Motorsports. His consistency in qualifying highlights his growth and the team’s efforts to compete at the highest level.
