On January 23rd at the famed Fiorano circuit, Charles Leclerc offered his first impressions of the new Ferrari SF-26 following its inaugural shakedown. Highlighting both excitement and caution, the Monegasque driver noted that, although the car showed no major issues, it is still early to make firm conclusions about its performance. The high anticipation surrounding the SF-26 was met with an energetic and challenging launch day.
Testing Conditions Impact Early Assessment of the Ferrari
Leclerc, who shared the track with fellow driver Lewis Hamilton during the tests, described his enthusiasm for the event while acknowledging the difficult weather.
“I’m definitely looking forward to this day every year,”
he said, emphasizing the importance of the moment for every racing season. However, persistent fog and a somewhat damp track made it less than ideal for an initial evaluation.
He added,
“The conditions weren’t that great either. There’s a lot of fog, a little bit of a wet track as well, so it’s not the best conditions to test a car for the first time.”
Despite these obstacles, Leclerc was reassured by how the SF-26 responded on the circuit.
Leclerc Confirms Smooth Functioning of the New Ferrari Model
With the day’s main aim being to verify that the vehicle was running properly, the driver reported a positive outcome.
“The main target is to check that everything is working properly and that there are no big problems,”
Leclerc explained.
“That was the case today, so that is a positive.”
His remarks underline the successful completion of this initial test phase despite the adverse weather.
The Unique Atmosphere of Fiorano Adds to the Testing Excitement
The presence of passionate Ferrari supporters, known as the Tifosi, added a special energy to the event. Leclerc acknowledged how their enthusiasm enriched the experience, commenting,
“It’s been a very exciting moment, especially because being in Fiorano there’s a lot of Tifosi all around the track, and that adds to that very special feeling.”
This enthusiastic environment increased the tension and joy surrounding the shakedown.
What Ferrari Faces as the Season Approaches
With private testing imminent in Barcelona, the Ferrari team and its drivers are under considerable pressure to improve following a disappointing 2025. Last season, Ferrari concluded the constructors’ championship in fourth place with 398 points, fueling the team’s determination for 2026. Fans and experts alike await to see if the SF-26 can help return Ferrari to its former glory among Formula 1’s elite.
The new season promises intense competition, with Leclerc and Hamilton poised to push their cars to the limits. As the countdown to the first race continues, the Ferrari engines are ready to resonate once again, inspiring hope and anticipation for a strong comeback.
