Chase Briscoe Opens Up on Why More Wins Elude Him in NASCAR 2025 Season Despite Strong Runs

In the 2025 NASCAR season, Chase Briscoe is driving the car previously piloted by Martin Truex Jr. for Joe Gibbs Racing. After 25 races, Briscoe remains in the top-10 in the overall points standings, showcasing consistent competitiveness as he aims for his first Cup Series championship.

The driver from Mitchell, Indiana, has accumulated 10 top-five finishes and 12 top-10s, leading a total of 313 laps. Despite a strong average starting position of 10.4 and an average finishing place of 13.32, Briscoe has not secured a victory since winning the race at Pocono on June 22.

When a fan recently asked him why he has struggled to add more wins this season, Briscoe explained:

“Feel like the circumstances just haven’t went our way truthfully. We’ve had the speed and even the execution to put ourself there multiple times just hasn’t worked out in some of them.” —Chase Briscoe, NASCAR driver

In his recent form, Briscoe finished within the top five in four of his last eight races, reflecting solid but not yet dominant performances. His next challenge will be the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona International Speedway, scheduled for August 23.

Upcoming Race and Historical Context at Daytona

The Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona will cover 400 laps and is set for Saturday evening, with live television coverage on Peacock beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET, complemented by live radio broadcasts on MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. Notably, the defending winner of this event is Harrison Burton, a former Wood Brothers Racing driver who no longer competes in the NASCAR Cup Series.

Penalty Controversy After Daytona 500 and Its Resolution

Shortly after the 2025 Daytona 500, which took place on February 16, Briscoe faced a major penalty related to an illegal modification involving the spoiler base on his Toyota car. Although he retained his fourth-place finish from the race, he was initially penalized with a deduction of 100 driver points and 10 playoff points. Alongside this, crew chief James Small was suspended for four races, and Joe Gibbs Racing received a $100,000 fine.

The team quickly appealed the decision. Joe Gibbs Racing explained the issue as a manufacturing problem:

“The issue in question was caused in the assembly process when bolts used to attach the spoiler base to the deck lid caused the pre-drilled holes to wear due to supplied part interferences,” —Joe Gibbs Racing official statement

The appeal was successful, resulting in the restoration of Briscoe’s points, the lifting of Small’s suspension, and the cancellation of the fine against the team. This reversal improved Briscoe’s standing from last place to 14th in the points chart, with 72 points restored.

The National Motorsports Appeal Panel clarified the cause of the problem:

“The panel believes that the elongation of some of the holes on the No. 19 Cup car spoiler base is caused by the process of attaching that specific spoiler base to the rear deck and not modification of the single source part,” —National Motorsports Appeal Panel

Briscoe’s Current Playoff Position and the Road Ahead

Currently, Chase Briscoe is competing among several Joe Gibbs Racing drivers who have qualified for the 2025 NASCAR playoffs, all except for Ty Gibbs. The postseason is set to begin at Darlington Raceway on August 31, marking a critical phase in Briscoe’s bid for the championship.

Despite a season of impressive runs and strong finishes, Briscoe has faced challenges converting his performances into wins. His continued consistency and resilience, combined with the ongoing support of Joe Gibbs Racing, keep him among the contenders as the season progresses toward its playoff crescendo.
