NASCAR Cup Series driver Denny Hamlin recently spoke out about Spire Motorsports driver Carson Hocevar‘s aggressive approach behind the wheel during an episode of the Actions Detrimental podcast. Hamlin specifically referenced an incident at EchoPark Speedway where Hocevar’s driving style came into question.
Hocevar, driving the #77 Chevy Camaro ZL1, started the 271-lap race in 15th position and managed to remain within the top five in the final laps. Hamlin pointed to a critical moment during overtime when Hocevar made a move on Christopher Bell that resulted in Bell crashing, which dashed Bell’s chances of winning the race at EchoPark Speedway.
Hamlin acknowledged that while fans appreciate Hocevar’s bold style, other drivers view it differently. He cautioned Hocevar that aggressive tactics often have consequences in NASCAR competition, explaining:
“It’s tough to watch. The media loves it, by the way. If you want to see what the media thinks, just ask them, and they’ll tell you, ‘Ah, we love Hocevar.’ Well, no question you do because he’s giving you some content for you to talk about. As a competitor, though, like, eventually, it’s going to come back around.” ?Denny Hamlin, NASCAR Cup Series Driver
“I think he’s missing a little bit of the craftsmanship of winning these races beyond just having a fast car. There’s just so much more to it, and I don’t know; it’s tough to watch as a competitor, but I don’t think we’re gonna do anything about it. I think you just gotta let it play itself out over time. I think he knows that anyone he gets into, he’s gonna have to be on his tippy toes when he’s racing around those guys, which is a tough way to race. But, if you don’t care, you don’t care, and that’s OK, too,” Hamlin concluded.
Recent Race Outcomes Highlight Hocevar’s Progress and Hamlin’s Setback
In the latest race at the Autotrader 400, Carson Hocevar finished strongly in fourth place, just behind winner Ross Chastain. Conversely, Denny Hamlin was involved in a multi-car collision that pushed him down to 13th place, earning only ten points toward the season standings. Meanwhile, Tyler Reddick, who won his second race of the year, continues to lead the points table.
Hamlin and National Debt Relief Extend Partnership into 2026 Season
Separately, Denny Hamlin shared insights about renewing his sponsorship deal with National Debt Relief for the upcoming 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season. The partnership, which initially launched during the 2025 Daytona 500, will see National Debt Relief sponsoring eight more races throughout 2026, with a total of 12 appearances of their paint scheme on Hamlin’s #11 Toyota Camry XSE.

The sponsorship resumed at the 2026 Daytona 500 on February 15 and was also featured at the recent EchoPark Speedway event. The paint scheme is scheduled to appear next at the DuraMax Grand Prix Powered by RelaDyne on March 1, 2026, at the Circuit of the Americas.
Reflecting on the renewal, Hamlin expressed his enthusiasm in a team statement:
“National Debt Relief is a great partner for our No. 11 team. Last year, their team was incredible with how they became ingrained with Joe Gibbs Racing and how they activated with the commercial spot and during the broadcasts, which grew awareness that National Debt Relief is a brand consumers can trust to help them find a faster path to debt freedom. I’m excited to see how we can continue to grow this partnership and get them to victory lane in 2026.” ?Denny Hamlin, NASCAR Cup Series Driver
Implications for the NASCAR Season and Rivalries Going Forward
Denny Hamlin’s comments highlight an ongoing tension surrounding aggressive driving styles like Carson Hocevar’s, bringing attention to how such tactics affect race dynamics. Hocevar’s willingness to race aggressively has garnered media and fan interest but could also lead to increasing scrutiny from fellow drivers and officials if incidents escalate.
As both drivers continue to compete at high levels in the NASCAR Cup Series, how Hocevar adapts his approach could influence his career trajectory and relationships on the track. Meanwhile, Hamlin’s pursuit of consistent results amid sponsorship commitments signals that his team remains a strong contender for victories throughout the 2026 season.
