Joseph Robert Gase was born on February 8, 1993, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, U.S. He began racing at a young age, starting in the junior classes at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in 2001. Gase’s early career was marked by significant achievements, including becoming the youngest driver to win the modified B championship at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway in 2007 and the late model championship at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in 2009. He graduated from Xavier High School in Cedar Rapids in 2011.
Gase faced personal tragedy when his mother, Mary Jo, passed away from a brain aneurysm when he was eighteen. This experience motivated him to promote organ donation, leading to him receiving the inaugural Comcast Community Champion Award in 2015, recognizing his advocacy efforts in honor of his mother, whose donated organs helped 66 others.
Path to NASCAR
Gase’s journey to NASCAR began with participation in various racing series, including the American Speed Association and the ARCA Racing Series. He made his NASCAR debut in the Nationwide Series (now Xfinity Series) at Iowa Speedway in August 2011, driving for Go Green Racing.
