Spencer Gallagher Bio

Spencer Moritz Gallagher (born November 20, 1989) is an American professional stock car racing driver. He last competed part-time in the ARCA Menards Series, driving the No. 23 Chevrolet for Sigma Performance Services, along with part-time stints in the ARCA Menards Series East and ARCA Menards Series West.

Gallagher is the son of Maurice J. Gallagher Jr., the chief executive officer of Allegiant Air. After competing in NASCAR’s national touring divisions, he transitioned into a managerial role at GMS Racing at the end of the 2018 season. In April 2025, he announced a return to ARCA competition after several years away from active driving.

Early Life and Background

Spencer Moritz Gallagher was born on November 20, 1989, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He grew up in the same neighborhood as fellow driver Dylan Kwasniewski, although the two first met on the racetrack rather than as childhood friends. Gallagher is the son of Maury Gallagher, the founder and chief executive officer of Allegiant Air.

Gallagher began racing at the age of twelve in the Bandolero Bandit Series before progressing to the Legends Car Series at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Bullring. According to published reports, he spent time working for a Silicon Valley software company at age nineteen while transitioning toward a full-time racing career.

Path to NASCAR

On the recommendation of car owner and former driver T.J. Clark, Gallagher began pursuing racing more seriously in 2009. That year, he won the Silver State Road Racing Championship, and in 2010 he captured the INEX Legends Road Course World Finals. He also ran six races in the Super Late Model Series during that stretch, posting a best finish of fourth.

In 2011, Gallagher made six starts in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West and two additional starts in the K&N Pro Series East. The same year, he debuted in the ARCA Racing Series at Indianapolis Raceway Park, laying the foundation for his climb into NASCAR’s national touring divisions.

Spencer Gallagher Career

Early Career (2011-2013)

Gallagher made his ARCA Racing Series debut in 2011 at Indianapolis Raceway Park, running two additional races that season with a best finish of fifteenth in the No. 05 Allegiant Air Chevrolet. In 2012, he contested the full nineteen-race ARCA schedule, earning six top-ten finishes and ending the year seventh in points.

His 2013 ARCA campaign showed further progress, with twelve laps led, five top-five finishes, and eight top-ten finishes. He failed to qualify for two races and missed another after a concussion at Michigan, finishing tenth in points. He also attempted five Camping World Truck Series events, failing to qualify for two, with a best result of twentieth at Texas.

ARCA Breakthrough (2014)

Gallagher ran the full 2014 ARCA schedule while splitting time in the No. 23 truck in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series with Max Gresham. The ARCA season produced his first victory in October 2014, when he won the ARCA 98.9 at Kansas Speedway, starting 32nd and leading the final 32 laps of the race.

That same month, he earned a Truck Series best finish of third at Talladega on a last-lap charge through the field. An incident with John Wes Townley at Iowa led to a brief physical confrontation between the two drivers and their crews, though the two later spoke in a friendlier tone.

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (2015-2016)

Gallagher moved to a full-time ride in 2015 with GMS Racing’s No. 23 truck. His season included a second-place finish at Gateway Motorsports Park in June as he continued to build his reputation in the series.

In 2016, he recovered from an early crash at Daytona to finish 21st and went on to record five consecutive top-ten Truck Series finishes before Texas. He finished second at Talladega behind teammate Grant Enfinger. A late-season crash with John Wes Townley at Gateway in June 2016 led to a brief fight and resulted in a $12,000 fine and probation.

NASCAR Xfinity Series (2017-2018)

Gallagher advanced to the NASCAR Xfinity Series on a full-time basis in 2017 with GMS Racing, driving the No. 23 Chevrolet. During practice for the OneMain Financial 200 at Dover International Speedway, Gallagher made contact with Joey Gase, generating public criticism from Gase and significant media attention.

In April 2018, Gallagher scored his first career Xfinity Series victory at Talladega Superspeedway, passing Tyler Reddick on the final lap in overtime. Four days later, NASCAR indefinitely suspended him for violating its substance abuse policy, costing him a Dash 4 Cash bonus and his playoff eligibility. He returned to the No. 23 car at Kentucky later that season.

Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Debut (2018)

In August 2018, Gallagher joined BK Racing for his Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series debut at Watkins Glen International. After starting 34th, he finished 35th in the road course event. On October 19, 2018, he announced he would step away from NASCAR competition to manage his father’s racing organization and pursue opportunities off the track.

Sigma Performance Services Era (2025-Present)

On April 11, 2025, it was announced that Gallagher would return to competitive racing in the ARCA Menards Series. He is scheduled to drive the No. 24 Chevrolet for Sigma Performance Services in the ARCA Menards Series East at Rockingham Speedway, marking his first start in any racing series since 2018. He will also drive the No. 23 Chevrolet for Sigma Performance Services at Talladega Superspeedway, Kansas Speedway, and Charlotte Motor Speedway in the main ARCA Menards Series.

Driving Style and Strengths

Gallagher built much of his reputation on superspeedway tracks, where his late-race aggression produced career-defining moments at Talladega and Daytona. He has shown a willingness to mix it up in traffic, which at times created rivalries but also delivered his biggest results, including his overtime Xfinity win at Talladega.

Notable Races and Milestones

His signature result came in the 2018 Xfinity Series race at Talladega, where he grabbed his first national-series win. He also earned his first ARCA victory at Kansas Speedway in 2014 and a third-place Truck Series finish at Talladega later that same year. His 2016 Truck Series runner-up at Talladega behind teammate Grant Enfinger added to his superspeedway resume.

Spencer Gallagher Career Wins

Gallagher has recorded verified victories in both the ARCA Racing Series and the NASCAR Xfinity Series. His breakthrough win came at Kansas Speedway in 2014, and he added an overtime victory at Talladega Superspeedway in 2018 in the Xfinity Series.

ARCA Menards Series Highlights

Gallagher’s first ARCA victory came in the 2014 season finale at Kansas Speedway, where he started 32nd and led the final 32 laps. His ARCA career also featured strong season-long showings in 2012 and 2013, with multiple top-five and top-ten finishes. In 2025, he announced a part-time ARCA return with Sigma Performance Services.

NASCAR Xfinity Series Highlights

Gallagher’s first and only verified Xfinity Series win came at Talladega Superspeedway in April 2018. He passed Tyler Reddick on the final lap in overtime to take the checkered flag. The win was a career milestone, although it was followed days later by an indefinite NASCAR suspension for a substance abuse policy violation.

Other Wins and Performances

Earlier in his development, Gallagher captured the 2009 Silver State Road Racing Championship and the 2010 INEX Legends Road Course World Finals. He also posted a Truck Series best finish of third at Talladega in 2014 and a runner-up result at the same track in 2016.

Spencer Gallagher Family

Family Background and Racing Lineage

Spencer Gallagher is the son of Maurice J. Gallagher Jr., the chief executive officer of Allegiant Air. His father’s business success gave Gallagher the resources to pursue a professional racing career from a young age. After stepping away from full-time driving in 2018, Gallagher took on a managerial role tied to his family’s racing operations.

Personal Life

Gallagher grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he began racing at local short tracks as a teenager. Public personal-life details beyond his birthplace, family connection to Allegiant Air, and racing background are not confirmed in available sources.

2025 Season Performance

Gallagher’s 2025 season centers on a part-time ARCA Menards Series return with Sigma Performance Services. He is scheduled to compete in the ARCA Menards Series East event at Rockingham Speedway, marking his first start in any racing series since 2018. Additional ARCA starts are planned at Talladega Superspeedway, Kansas Speedway, and Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The campaign represents a measured re-entry into racing rather than a full national-series schedule. With multiple superspeedway and intermediate ovals on the calendar, Gallagher’s 2025 plan leans on tracks that align with his established strengths. His role with the family’s racing organization continues off the track.
