Eli Tomac Reflects on Supercross Crash That Shook Glendale

During round 5 of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross held in Glendale, Arizona, Red Bull KTM’s Eli Tomac was performing exceptionally, securing second place in qualifying and entering the race as a leading favorite to win. However, a sudden crash at the start of the 450SX main event abruptly altered the course of his night and championship standing.

Tomac was involved in a collision at the first turn, causing him to fall and take time to recover on the track. Despite the setback, he managed to rally back and finish 12th, though this position caused him to lose the points lead to Honda HRC Progressive’s Hunter Lawrence, who took second place behind Ken Roczen.

Details from Tomac on the Incident and Recovery

In a statement issued by KTM, Tomac explained his perspective on the crash and its aftermath:

“I put myself in a position where bad things can happen. I got a little pinched at the start and then got taken out – so I don’t know what happened before that, all I know is, I was done. It took me a little while to get warmed up again, kind of got my body loosened up and going, and that’s what I had to get back to 12th. The good thing is, we’re not too far down – we’re fine – so we’ll just have to do some digging now.”

This reflection highlights the challenges Tomac faced during the race, emphasizing both the physical and mental effort required to recover amid intense competition.

Championship Standings and Upcoming Race Outlook

Following this event, Eli Tomac now ranks third in the championship points, trailing Hunter Lawrence by eight points. His performance in Glendale marks a pivotal moment in the championship race, narrowing the margin for the upcoming round.

Attention now shifts to round 6 scheduled for Seattle, Washington, this coming Saturday, where Tomac will seek to regain lost ground and mount a comeback in the tightly contested season.
