Enea Bastianini Gears Up for Epic MotoGP Comeback in 2026

Enea Bastianini is preparing for a major resurgence in the 2026 MotoGP season after a challenging year with KTM. The rider endured a difficult 2025 campaign, marred by the financial struggles of the Mattighofen-based manufacturer and a disappointing 14th-place finish overall. Now, Bastianini is determined to bounce back and prove his competitiveness as the new season approaches.

Reflecting on his offseason, Bastianini shared how he used the break to recharge both physically and mentally.

“During the pause, I stayed home. I try not to travel too much during that time; I prefer to relax. It was nice because I managed to train well and spend time with family. I definitely recharged my batteries.”

With the off-season rest complete, he has turned his focus toward understanding where things went wrong last year.

“Honestly, I didn’t focus much on it after the season ended. But once the new year kicked off, I started working to identify areas for improvement, reviewing races where I felt competitive, such as Balaton, Brno, and Barcelona,”

he admitted.

Tackling Technical Problems and Team Dynamics

Bastianini acknowledged that his struggles were not solely due to tire performance but also to fundamental challenges with qualifying and bike setup.

“It’s clear we need to strengthen certain areas, particularly qualifying, but each season tells a different story.”

The question remains whether these issues can be fixed through his driving skills alone or if KTM’s support will play a pivotal role in improving the bike’s responsiveness, especially on fresh tires.

“It’s going to be a combination of both. It’s crucial to make the most of the upcoming tests. Plus, I’ll have a new chief mechanic, so kicking off on the right foot together is essential. We have some ideas to try out,”

Bastianini shared.

The partnership with Andrés Madrid, his newly appointed chief mechanic, is a key element in Bastianini’s preparations.

“Yes, he came to Jerez for a private test. He put in 600 km. It was great, even though we only had an hour on a wet track. We spent time discussing the past and the future, and both of us are ready to hit the ground running,”

he explained, highlighting the constructive start of their collaboration.

Optimism Surrounding KTM’s Renewed Strategy in 2026

With KTM’s approach evolving, Bastianini feels more confident about the year ahead.

“Last year, we didn’t even know if we’d make it to the tests. This time, I’ve had a more peaceful winter. Now, let’s see how I feel on the track. KTM has been working well, and the bikes were quite fast during the shakedown. I’m excited to start and hope to do better than 2025—it’s hard to imagine doing worse,”

he said.

He also noted that the team’s planning has improved significantly compared to the previous year.

“Last year, ideas were a bit muddled; now everything is clearer. For instance, we’ll have new aerodynamic updates to test here. Feedback from other riders indicates that some things worked, while others didn’t. We need to try everything after establishing the bike’s baseline,”

Bastianini pointed out, emphasizing a more structured approach to development and testing.

This collaborative clarity is essential for quick progress.

“If we can solidify this opportunity, it would be a positive sign that we’re on the right track. The first impression is crucial, even if some things need multiple tests. If we all agree on the path forward at the end of this, that wouldn’t be a bad outcome.”

Managing Pressure Amidst a Competitive Rider Market

As the rider transfer market heats up, Bastianini acknowledges the urgency to prove himself in the opening rounds of the 2026 season.

“I’m handling it well, but I believe there’s a lot to prove at the start of the season. This year, the market is early, so the first three or four rounds will be critical.”

His selection of Andrés Madrid as chief mechanic came after careful consideration.

“The truth is that Binder was advised to make a change. At that point, I became interested and wanted to learn more about Andrés and his background. The chief mechanic is a pivotal figure in our sport. I believe he could be the right person for me. I’ll confirm that after the tests, but for now, I’m happy; he seems like a great guy and well-prepared technically.”

What Lies Ahead for Bastianini and the MotoGP World

With the 2026 season on the horizon, all eyes will be on Enea Bastianini’s ability to rise from a difficult 2025 and restore his standing in MotoGP. His renewed focus, strategic changes with KTM, and collaboration with Andrés Madrid offer hope for a strong comeback. As the season unfolds, fans and analysts alike will watch closely to see if Bastianini can turn setbacks into a triumphant return and make his mark once again in this fiercely competitive sport.
