Fabio Di Giannantonio enters the 2026 MotoGPseason eager to demonstrate his potential aboard the newly developed Ducati GP26, a bike that has notably improved his confidence on the track. The Italian rider, now in his third year with VR46 and riding an official Ducati, has praised the GP26 for enhancing front-end stability, addressing concerns that plagued last year’s GP25.
Challenges and Improvements Compared to the Previous Model
The 2025 GP25 model experienced difficulties, especially with front-end grip, which affected many riders in the Ducati camp, including Pecco Bagnaia. For Di Giannantonio, the previous season was marked by inconsistent performances, where moments of being a podium contender were offset by crashes and poor qualifying outcomes. The GP26, however, represents a fresh start with mechanical updates aimed at delivering stronger consistency and rider confidence.
Reflecting on his first rides with the GP26, Di Giannantonio explained,
“The GP26 seems to be a different beast altogether,”
and further added,
“In Sepang, I was hesitant to say too much since we had only ridden on one track, but upon arriving here, we barely touched the setup, and the basic configuration feels solid. I am really comfortable on the bike—it inspires more confidence and feels more genuine at the front, which is a positive sign.”
Adaptation and Testing Focus During the Offseason
Although optimistic, Di Giannantonio remains cautious in his outlook, recognizing the necessity to evaluate the GP26’s performance across various circuits. He noted,
“We need to see how it performs in races and different tracks, but the foundation of this new bike, with its new components, feels more honest and predictable,”
emphasizing the significance of this steadiness in rebuilding his confidence after the setbacks of last year.
Beyond handling and stability, aerodynamic considerations have also occupied his attention. Di Giannantonio mentioned testing multiple fairings but revealed only that he and his team have chosen a fairly conventional option, stating,

“I’ve tested all the fairings available and we have decided… I can’t disclose the name just yet, but it’s quite standard, and it’s crucial not to tie it to the year of the bike.”
Physical Conditioning and Development Role for an Important Season
The 2026 campaign stands as a crucial point for Di Giannantonio’s career, as he not only seeks to establish himself among elite riders but also contributes significantly to the GP26’s development, a role he has embraced during extensive winter testing. His debut official Ducati season had been impacted by injury, hindering his full potential, but this year he returns fully fit.
Describing his offseason preparation, he shared,
“I’ve focused on physical training, which was my main goal for this year. I feel fantastic—physically, I’m in the best shape of my career! We’ve been able to put in a lot of laps during testing, and it’s the first time I could genuinely engage in the bike’s development from the winter months.”
He added,
“Last year, I couldn’t gain muscle during the season, but this winter, I’ve been able to push myself, so I feel great. In all long runs and test days, I’ve been able to brake strongly, which is crucial in MotoGP.”
Looking Ahead: Expectations for the 2026 MotoGP Season
With the improved confidence inspired by the Ducati GP26 and his enhanced physical condition, Fabio Di Giannantonio is poised to challenge the dominance of established riders like Marc Márquez, Alex Márquez, and Pecco Bagnaia. His role in refining the bike through winter testing offers him a promising foundation as the season opener approaches, fueling hopes that this may be the year he steps forward as a consistent frontrunner in MotoGP.
