Fermín Aldeguer announced during the Gresini team’s official presentation that his return to MotoGP will likely be postponed by about two months. The young Spaniard remains in Andorra, recovering from a recent femur fracture, and will miss upcoming races and pre-season activities as he focuses on his rehabilitation.
Absence at Team Presentation and Upcoming Testing
The Gresini team revealed its new livery at a presentation event held in Malaysia, attended only by rider Álex Márquez. Aldeguer was absent due to his inability to travel amid his ongoing recovery. The team also confirmed it would not participate in the MotoGP testing scheduled in Malaysia from February 3 to 5, but no specific return date had been provided before Aldeguer’s update.
Via a video message during the live broadcast, Aldeguer shared,
“Unfortunately, I can’t be there, but the most important thing is my recovery.”
He added,
“It’s going well. I’m feeling better every day and getting closer and closer to getting back on the bike. But for now, I have to stay home.”
Potential Comeback Targets and Preparations
Aldeguer cautiously outlined his possible return goals without setting a firm timeline for rejoining the competition.
“I can’t give a precise date or set a Grand Prix yet. I have a few goals in mind. I’d like to be in Brazil or maybe Austin, but I have to wait for the results of all the tests and see how my leg reacts. Then I’ll come back,”
he said.
Given that the Brazilian and United States Grands Prix are scheduled for March 20–22 and March 27–29 respectively, Aldeguer’s comeback would come after a two-month hiatus. This delay means he will miss all pre-season testing sessions and the season opener in Thailand at the end of February, though this timeline could still be subject to change depending on his recovery progress.
Impressions of the New GP25 and Future Prospects
Despite not having the chance to see the bike in person, Aldeguer expressed enthusiasm for the new GP25 model he will ride this season.
“The bike is really great! This is the second time I’ve seen it, because I wasn’t able to take the photos with the team and Álex. We replaced the silver with black. I think it’s more aggressive, really magnificent, and I hope it will be just as fast,”
he concluded.
As Aldeguer focuses on healing, the racing community is anticipating his recovery and eventual return, which will be crucial for both his career trajectory and the Gresini team’s performance this season.
