Fermin Aldeguer will not participate in the upcoming pre-season MotoGP test at Sepang due to recent surgery on his fractured femur. The Gresini Racing Ducati rider sustained the injury in a crash at the Aspar Circuit in Valencia on January 8, leading to a surgical procedure in Barcelona the following day.
Details of the Injury and Recovery Timeline
Aldeguer’s left femur fracture is a serious injury that typically requires several months for complete healing. Because of this, his involvement in the Sepang test from February 3 to 5 was ruled out early, and his readiness for the season opener in Thailand later that month is also uncertain. The recovery period will require careful monitoring to determine his return to full racing fitness.
Aldeguer’s Performance and Role in the Team
This year, Aldeguer is set to compete on the Ducati Desmosedici GP25 after a remarkable rookie campaign in 2025. Among his achievements was a dominant victory in Indonesia, where he won his first Grand Prix by nearly seven seconds. Additionally, he earned three Grand Prix podium finishes and three Sprint podiums, finishing eighth in the overall championship standings.
Team Focus Shifts to Alex Marquez Amid Aldeguer’s Absence
With Aldeguer sidelined, Gresini Racing is shifting its full attention to Alex Marquez and the latest GP26 Ducati model. Marquez had his strongest MotoGP season to date last year, finishing second behind his brother Marc Marquez in the championship. In 2025, Alex secured three Grand Prix wins along with three Sprint victories, accumulating 12 Grand Prix podiums and 15 Sprint podiums.
Upcoming Events and Team Presentation
The Gresini Racing team will unveil its 2026 livery on January 31 during an event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The three-day test at Sepang will soon be followed by a two-day session at the Chang International Circuit in Thailand on February 21 and 22. This circuit will then host the season’s first race from February 27 to March 1.
