Fermin Aldeguer Officially Out of 2026 Sepang MotoGP Test

Fermin Aldeguer will not participate in the upcoming Sepang MotoGP test after sustaining a left femur fracture during a training session at the Aspar circuit in Valencia on January 8. The Gresini Ducati rider underwent surgery in Barcelona the following day and is now confirmed to miss the three-day testing event in Malaysia.

The recovery timeline remains uncertain, but Aldeguer’s absence from Sepang is definite as the 2025 Indonesian Grand Prix winner focuses on rehabilitation.

Limited Pre-Season Track Opportunities Ahead

Aldeguer’s last chance to gain pre-season MotoGP track time on his GP25 is at the Buriram test scheduled for February 21-22, just one week before the Thai Grand Prix season opener. However, his preparation is hindered by the injury’s impact.

“It’s impossible for him to be ready for the pre-season, and we’ll fight to have him at the first MotoGP race,”

Aldeguer’s physiotherapist stated recently.

Despite the setback, Aldeguer had a strong rookie MotoGP season, finishing eighth overall with three Grand Prix podiums, including victories in Mandalika, as well as three Sprint podiums.

Team Updates and Related Absences

Gresini Racing will reveal their new MotoGP livery showcasing Aldeguer and teammate Alex Marquez on January 31 in Malaysia. Marquez, the reigning title runner-up, will compete with upgraded factory-spec Ducati machinery for the 2026 season.

Additionally, Aprilia’s Jorge Martin is anticipated to miss the Malaysian test due to ongoing recovery from collarbone surgery sustained at last year’s Japanese Grand Prix.

Implications for the Upcoming MotoGP Season

Aldeguer’s injury and missed testing sessions pose challenges for his 2026 campaign readiness, potentially affecting his early-season performance. His rehabilitation progress will be closely watched by Gresini Racing as they prepare for the forthcoming races. The Buriram test remains a critical opportunity for him to regain familiarity with his bike before the Thai Grand Prix.
