Francesco Bagnaia Says Marquez Doesn’t Need Peace with Rossi

The long-standing conflict between Marc Marquez and Valentino Rossi remains one of the most discussed rivalries in MotoGP history. Francesco Bagnaia recently shared his perspective on why Marquez does not need to seek reconciliation with Rossi. The roots of this dispute trace back to the 2015 season, particularly an incident at the Malaysian Grand Prix where Rossi appeared to intentionally kick Marquez, culminating in a crash and deepening hostilities between the two riders.

This moment defined the season and has since become a pivotal point of tension in the sport, with neither Marquez nor Rossi engaging publicly to bridge the divide. Fans and commentators alike continue to reflect on how this clash has influenced the MotoGP landscape over the years.

Bagnaia Reflects on the Feud’s Impact and Its Place in MotoGP History

On the BSMT podcast, Bagnaia, a two-time premier class champion and member of the VR46 Riders’ Academy, addressed the ongoing feud between the two champions. He explained how the conflict affected him personally as part of Rossi’s racing family, stating,

“Being from the [VR46 Riders’] Academy, you bring along all the huge fans of Vale and the very few haters of Vale. It’s normal for it to be this way, of course.”

He acknowledged the vocal negativity from some fans but emphasized that, as a rider, he approaches his career independently from past rivalries:

I definitely carried with me what happened in 2015, but it’s not fair, because in the end I am another driver and I do my own thing.

When asked whether Marquez also faced backlash due to the Sepang incident, Bagnaia admitted,

I think he might have. He might have. I’m from the Academy and he’s the one who argued and fought with Vale.

Ultimately, Bagnaia expressed that a formal resolution between Marquez and Rossi seems unnecessary:

I don’t think there’s any need. In the end, that’s how it was.

Insights into Bagnaia’s Teammate Relationship with Marc Marquez

Bagnaia also discussed his experience sharing a Ducati team with Marquez, known as the “Ant of Cervera,” and how competing alongside one of MotoGP’s greatest riders has influenced him. He welcomed the challenge and regarded it as motivation, explaining,

I wanted to experience it, as a stimulus, honestly,

and described Marquez as one of the best riders in history, alongside Rossi.

Bagnaia added,

Then he went through some difficult years and wanted to get back in the game and everything. In my opinion, it can only be a stimulus. And I tried to experience it that way when I was told he would be on the team.

Recalling how team managers Davide Tardozzi and Luigi Dall’Igna informed him of Marquez joining Ducati, Bagnaia said he has maintained a positive relationship with his teammate.

“Well, it’s difficult for me to have problems with anyone. I’ve never had problems with my teammates. I’ve always been very relaxed with everyone,”

he shared.

He praised Marquez’s adaptability and intelligence, saying,

He adapted immediately, we had a good relationship right from the start, and we often discussed different situations and technical solutions, and it’s been a good working relationship.

Lasting Significance of the Marquez-Rossi Rivalry in MotoGP

The years-long friction between Marc Marquez and Valentino Rossi continues to resonate within the MotoGP community. While many anticipate if or when the two icons might reconcile, Bagnaia’s remarks suggest that the rivalry is part of the sport’s history and narrative, not necessarily one requiring formal closure. Marquez’s career, intertwined with that rivalry, has since developed through new chapters, including partnerships like the one with Bagnaia at Ducati.

As the sport evolves, the dynamic among its leading figures remains a compelling aspect for fans and analysts alike, with the Marc Marquez Valentino Rossi feud standing as a defining moment in MotoGP’s recent past.
