Hamilton Dismisses Rivalry with Leclerc at Ferrari Ahead of 2026

As the 2026 Formula 1 season approaches, Lewis Hamilton has spoken out to clarify that he does not view Charles Leclerc as a rival within their Ferrari team. Entering the new campaign with renewed determination, Hamilton aims to improve after a challenging debut year with the Scuderia.

During the previous season, Hamilton endured his first career year without a podium finish throughout the 24-race calendar, grappling with an uncompetitive SF-25 car. Meanwhile, Leclerc also missed out on race victories but managed seven podiums and secured pole position at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The Dynamic Between Hamilton and Leclerc at Ferrari

The prospect of Hamilton and Leclerc competing teammates has excited many fans, given their combined skill levels. While it naturally raises expectations of on-track battles, Hamilton emphasized that Ferrari’s team unity takes priority over individual competition.

Speaking to Corriere della Sera, Hamilton said,

“I don’t see it that way,”

acknowledging Ferrari’s immense popularity in Italy and abroad. He added,

“Ferrari is one thing: in Italy and abroad, people follow it like a religion and love it like the Pope. My goal is not to divide the fans.”

He affirmed that while both drivers aim to win and he wants to be the one to do so, he prioritizes the team’s success. Hamilton praised Leclerc’s abilities, stating,

“Charles is a phenomenal driver in terms of his driving and his ethics, and he’s been here for eight years. But I’m coming into this championship in a different way.”

Hamilton’s Confidence in Ferrari’s 2026 Car Design

Hamilton also shared insights from pre-season testing in Bahrain, expressing optimism about the SF-26, the successor to the SF-25. Having invested 14 months developing the new car alongside engineers and using simulators, he feels personally connected to its design improvements.

“Compared to the previous one, which I found already designed and could change very little, this car has a bit of my DNA in it, and that excites me,”

Hamilton said, highlighting the difference this involvement has made to his motivation.

Implications for the Upcoming Season at Ferrari

Hamilton’s comments demonstrate his commitment to fostering team harmony while pursuing personal and collective success. With both experienced drivers aiming to extract the best from the SF-26, Ferrari appears focused on delivering a stronger championship challenge in 2026. The dynamic between Hamilton and Leclerc will be closely watched as the season unfolds, with their cooperation potentially critical to Ferrari’s performance.
