Is This KTM’s Final MotoGP Bike for Pedro Acosta?

KTM has introduced its motorcycles and team liveries for the 2026 MotoGP season in an online presentation, marking the start of a new chapter for the Austrian manufacturer. Despite a challenging 2025 season that ended without any race wins, KTM aims to improve its performance and support its young star, Pedro Acosta, who remains a key figure for the factory team.

The 2025 campaign proved difficult, as KTM failed to secure a victory since Miguel Oliveira’s last win at the 2022 Thai Grand Prix and has not won a dry weather race since the 2021 Catalan Grand Prix. These droughts highlight the performance issues the brand continues to face despite moments of promise.

Pedro Acosta’s Struggle and KTM’s Urgent Need for Progress

Pedro Acosta joined KTM’s factory team in 2025 after an impressive rookie season with multiple podium finishes. However, his transition to the top tier has been slower than expected. His first podium of the 2025 season did not come until the Czech Republic race before the summer break, and although he finished fourth in the overall standings by the end of the year, he has yet to secure a MotoGP win.

Heading into his third year, Acosta’s continued winless streak in the premier class places pressure on KTM to deliver a competitive bike early in the 2026 season. Should KTM fail to meet his aspirations, the Spanish rider, a two-time world champion, may seek opportunities with rival manufacturers.

Brad Binder and Team Adjustments for 2026

Brad Binder remains Acosta’s teammate with KTM for the upcoming season. After a podium-less 2025, Binder’s crew chief role has changed hands to Phil Marron, signaling an internal shift aimed at enhancing performance. Both riders will be critical for KTM’s efforts to regain competitiveness on the grid.

Tech3 Team and Prospects for the Future

At the Tech3 satellite team, Maverick Viñales played a significant role in progressing KTM’s project throughout last season. Unfortunately, an injury sustained at Sachsenring interrupted his momentum in the second half of the year. With the involvement of former world champion Jorge Lorenzo in his program, Viñales is positioning himself as a possible successor to lead KTM’s efforts should Acosta depart after 2026.

Enea Bastianini remains part of the Tech3 line-up and has been paired with crew chief Andres Madrid, who previously worked with Brad Binder. Bastianini managed a single podium finish in Catalunya last year but struggled to consistently compete at the front. Improvement in his performance will be vital if he wants to maintain a strong presence within the KTM fold or elsewhere in 2027.

Looking Ahead to the 2026 MotoGP Season

KTM’s ability to deliver a winning package for Pedro Acosta will likely define its future relationship with the talented rider. The 2026 season offers a critical test as the brand aims to break its recent winless streak and reestablish itself as a contender in MotoGP. How well KTM adapts and supports its riders, including Acosta and Viñales, will determine its prospects in the increasingly competitive championship.
