Joey Logano Returns to Site of Dramatic NASCAR Comeback

Last year at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course, Joey Logano was initially eliminated from the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs after the race concluded. However, when Alex Bowman’s car was disqualified for being underweight, Logano was unexpectedly reinstated into the playoff field. This surprising turn granted Logano a second chance to continue competing in the championship battle.

A Rapid Turnaround Leads to Championship Victory

Following the reversal at Charlotte, Logano capitalized on the opportunity by winning the race at Las Vegas a week later, securing a berth in the Championship 4 event at Phoenix Raceway. There, he clinched his third NASCAR Cup Series title. Reflecting on the rollercoaster of emotions, Logano said,

“I remember the emotions leaving the track,”

showing the emotional toll of being on the cusp of elimination.

He added,

“I was bummed. I was like, ‘Well, on one hand, we did really good here last year,’ so I was proud of the effort that we gave. I was bummed that we were just a little short, but it is what it is. That’s how I am at the end of the race. It is what it is.”

Unexpected News Shifts Momentum

What followed was a dramatic shift in his season’s trajectory.

“I can’t change it now, and you just have to keep looking out the windshield and we went home. We went home and had a fairly normal evening, and then I got a call and it was like, ‘Hey, honey, you ain’t gonna believe it. We’re back in,’”

Logano recounted. The next week completely altered Logano’s fortunes in the NASCAR Cup Series.

“Obviously, the next seven days after that changed everything, because we went from out to in to winning Vegas and in the Championship 4 and winning our third title, so just a quick turn of events, but that’s NASCAR racing for you. It’s unpredictable. Things can change really, really fast. You just have to keep rolling with it,”

he said.

Current Focus on Maintaining Playoff Position at Charlotte Roval

Approaching this year’s race at Charlotte Roval, Logano holds eighth place in the standings, narrowly positioned 13 points above the playoff elimination line in the Round of 8. As the defending series champion, he remains cautious, determined not to look ahead prematurely.

Describing his mindset, Logano stated,

“It’s one step at a time. We’ve got to get through this week first. This week right now is the most important race of the season for us. We’ve got to get through this one.”

He emphasized the urgency by adding,

“Hopefully, we can continue to be in the championship race after this, and at that point we’ll look at Vegas (next weekend’s Round of 8 opener), but right now 100 percent of our focus is at the Roval.”

The Significance of the Charlotte Roval Race for Logano’s Title Defense

Logano’s comeback story from last year has made the Charlotte Roval a pivotal event for his 2024 season ambitions. His ability to adapt quickly to unexpected changes and remain focused under pressure reflects the high stakes and unpredictability of NASCAR competition. As he returns to the site of his dramatic comeback, all eyes will be on how he navigates this critical juncture.
