Johann Zarco Says Diogo Moreira Could Rival Marc Márquez

MotoGP rider Johann Zarco has expressed high praise for his emerging teammate, Diogo Moreira, during a recent practice session at the Cartagena circuit in Spain. Zarco, preparing for the 2026 season, noted the Brazilian rider’s extraordinary abilities and compared his potential to the legendary Marc Márquez, signaling a promising future for Moreira.

At 35 years old, Zarco remains deeply engaged with the sport’s evolving talent pool, having recently hosted a training session featuring French and Belgian riders. His connection with Moreira, the current Moto2 World Champion, stands out due to their shared enthusiasm and competitive spirit.

Growing Bond and Mutual Respect Between Zarco and Moreira

Despite mechanical issues that prevented Moreira from participating fully in training, Zarco highlighted their strong interaction during the practice days. He said,

“Unfortunately, Diogo couldn’t train with us this time, but I’m not too upset,”

Zarco revealed.

“I had my own bike issues on the first day. However, we shared a great moment at the end of the session, doing some impressive runs together on fresh tires. It was a blast!”

The camaraderie between the two riders contrasts sharply with Zarco’s experience with previous teammates. Comparing the dynamic with former partner Takaaki Nakagami, Zarco observed,

“With my past partners like Takaaki Nakagami, the vibe was different. We get along well, but it wasn’t as friendly. Diogo, on the other hand, has a much better rapport. I sense we’ll be training together more often, especially if I amp up my training cadence.”

Zarco Explores New Training Techniques Including Flat Track Riding

Zarco’s enthusiasm extends beyond his partnership with Moreira, as he experiments with fresh training methods. Recently participating in the TT Christmas event at Rocco’s Ranch in Barcelona, he appreciates the benefits of flat track riding.

“I’m not a typical dirt rider, but flat track is such a fun and engaging way to improve. It’s not just about performance; it’s about entertaining the fans and enjoying the ride,”

Zarco said.

Moreira’s Exceptional Talent and Potential Compared to Marc Márquez

Zarco is impressed by Moreira’s versatility and adaptability on different bikes, suggesting that the Brazilian rider could challenge even the sport’s most revered figures.

“I’m beginning to understand what makes Diogo tick. His adaptability on any bike is extraordinary. I’ve heard whispers that he could rival Márquez in this category. He possesses an aptitude that is rare. I’ve yet to see another rider with his unique skill set,”

he stated.

While Moreira has yet to match Márquez’s sheer speed, Zarco recognizes his exceptional skill level.

“He may not have shown Márquez’s raw speed just yet, but his skills are undeniable. When it comes to the flat track, I see him as a formidable opponent. His potential is limitless,”

Zarco commented.

Zarco’s Commitment to Learning and Adapting in a Competitive Environment

As Zarco and Moreira prepare for the upcoming season, Zarco acknowledges the importance of learning from younger riders to maintain his competitive edge.

“I still have a lot to learn from Diogo and others. I notice my own struggles and realize it’s crucial to adapt and evolve. After all, growth is the key to staying competitive in this sport,”

he admitted.

He also emphasized the physical demands of MotoGP racing and the need for constant development.

“I’m hungry to learn. This evolution not only makes riding easier but also helps me maintain my energy throughout the grueling race season,”

Zarco added.
