Kimi Antonelli Stuns in Barcelona, Mercedes W17 Impresses

Italian driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli delivered a standout performance at the Barcelona testing circuit, showcasing his skill and determination behind the wheel of the new Mercedes W17. On the second day of testing, Antonelli and his team covered an impressive 850 kilometers, signaling a strong start for Mercedes ahead of the upcoming season. Antonelli’s pace was particularly notable, edging out his teammate George Russell to lead the charts and setting the tone for the team’s aspirations.

Challenges Overcome and Impressive Adaptation

The first day of testing had presented difficulties due to wet conditions limiting driving time, but Antonelli’s performance improved markedly on day two. Both he and Russell managed to record laps under the key 1:18 threshold, with Antonelli maintaining a narrow advantage of nearly two-tenths of a second. Demonstrating adaptability, Antonelli completed 91 laps, gaining valuable experience with a car he described as

“very different from last year’s model.”

Today was a significant improvement over Monday. The wet track limited my performance in the morning, but this afternoon we completed a full race distance, which is invaluable for gathering data.
