Kyle Busch achieved his third consecutive and ninth career win in the Fr8 208 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series on Saturday afternoon at EchoPark Speedway, marking a new series record and securing his 68th overall victory. Busch’s performance capped an intense contest defined by a close battle in the final laps, highlighting his continued dominance in the series.
Battling Stewart Friesen in a Late-Race Duel
During the closing stages, Busch, 40, engaged in a fierce exchange of the lead with seasoned driver Stewart Friesen, evoking memories of their 2025 showdown on Atlanta’s 1.5-mile high banks where Friesen finished second behind Busch. Ultimately, Busch’s No. 7 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet reclaimed the lead, aided by a critical push from teammate Carson Hocevar in the last seven laps, securing the victory.
The race was cut short due to Adverse Conditions, ending 10 laps shy of the scheduled 135-lap distance.
Final Results Highlight Close Competition
Busch crossed the finish line only 0.114 seconds ahead of the chasing pack, with several trucks attempting, but failing, to organize a last-lap challenge. Hocevar’s No. 77 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet finished second, followed by Giovanni Ruggiero from TRICON Garage, Ben Rhodes of ThorSport Racing, and 2025 champion Corey Heim. Heim, driving the No. 1 TRICON Garage Toyota Tundra and winner of Stage 1, expressed post-race frustration over not being aware that the race had been shortened.
“It got dicey there at the end,’’ Busch said with a grin after his signature bow at the finish line. “Certainly, a great race and it got exciting there at the end.
Had a great teammate [Hocevar] behind me and have to give credit where credit is due. Early on was a little worried he wasn’t helping but there at the end he was right there. …definitely made it a whole lot easier.

Ben Rhodes Leads Early but Encounters Setbacks
Ben Rhodes, a two-time series champion celebrating his 29th birthday, set the fastest pace for much of the race by leading a race-high 70 laps. However, running out of fuel mid-race forced Rhodes to make a comeback from a two-lap deficit. He managed to regain his position on the lead lap and challenged Busch in the final laps but was unable to keep pace with the veteran competitor.
Stewart Friesen’s Late Surge and Team Dynamics
Friesen, who won Stage 2, made a powerful push near the end, closely contesting the lead with Busch lap after lap. Despite his efforts, Busch and Hocevar’s teamwork helped maintain the advantage through the closing laps.
Other Notable Performances and Race Highlights
Chandler Smith, last week’s Daytona winner and a Front Row Motorsports driver, finished sixth, preserving his lead in the early championship standings, 28 points ahead of Gio Ruggiero. Jake Garcia secured the pole position and finished seventh, while NASCAR Cup Series regulars John Hunter Nemechek and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. also placed in the top ten. Justin Haley drove the No. 16 Kaulig Racing RAM, marking the manufacturer’s 2026 return with a tenth-place finish.
The event featured five different leaders and 14 lead changes, underscoring the competitive nature of the race.
Kyle Busch Faces Increased Competition on Track
Despite his success, Busch acknowledged the challenges he faced during the race, noting that his usual drafting partners were less willing to assist him this time, a change that intensified the difficulty of maintaining the front-running pace.
“If there was a confidence meter on me, the start of the race it was at a 100 but then as we got through the second stage of the race it was dipping, it was a 40 just because it seemed like everybody had talked, and no one was helping Kyle today,’’ Busch said, referencing the reluctance of other drivers to collaborate in drafting strategies.
“Every time I pulled out of lane and looked for two or three to go with me in order to get to the front not one of them ever came to my rear bumper to push,’’ he added.
“Just seemed like at the beginning and middle of the race I was having a tough time being able to make the moves I remember making last year by myself. Today is was harder to do that.’’
Upcoming Challenges in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series
Following this race, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will head to the downtown St. Petersburg Road Course for the OnlyBulls Green Flag 150 next Saturday at noon Eastern Time. This event will mark the series’ first-ever street race, adding a new challenge to the 2026 season’s schedule and providing drivers an opportunity to showcase their versatility on a distinctive course.
