Kyle Busch has secured an eight-race agreement with Spire Motorsports for the 2026 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, marking his most extensive campaign in the series since 2014. This comes after NASCAR eased restrictions known as the “Kyle Busch rule,” which previously limited full-time Cup drivers’ participation in lower tiers.
The new regulation allows Cup drivers with at least three years of experience to compete in up to eight Truck Series races, up from the previous limit of five, and permits up to 10 events in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, formerly the Xfinity Series. Busch began his 2026 Truck season driving the No. 7 Chevrolet at EchoPark Speedway, formerly Atlanta Motor Speedway, where he extended his all-time series win record to 68. Earlier, Spire Motorsports’ Cup driver Michael McDowell started the season at Daytona International Speedway behind the wheel of the same truck.
Connor Mosack to Debut in Truck Series at St. Petersburg
This weekend, Connor Mosack will make his season debut in the No. 7 truck at St. Petersburg, Florida, replacing Busch, who will compete in the Cup Series race at Circuit of the Americas. This event is notable because it is the only race of the year where the Cup, O’Reilly, and Truck Series will not be at the same track, allowing Busch to focus on the Cup race for Richard Childress Racing.
Spire Motorsports will field a renewed driver lineup for the Truck Series’ first-ever street race on the 14-turn, 1.8-mile temporary St. Petersburg street circuit. Mosack, who raced full-time in the Truck Series for McAnally-Hilgemann Racing last year, brings prior experience with Spire from six events in 2024. His 2026 schedule with the team includes 12 races.
James Hinchcliffe to Join Spire Motorsports’ Truck Series Lineup
Joining Mosack at St. Petersburg will be former IndyCar driver James Hinchcliffe, competing in the No. 77 Chevrolet. Hinchcliffe is set to make his NASCAR national series debut in this race, replacing Carson Hocevar, another Spire Motorsports Cup driver who piloted the same truck at Daytona and EchoPark Speedway. This marks a rare crossover from IndyCar to NASCAR, adding further intrigue to the event.
Busch’s next Truck Series race is scheduled for April 10 at Bristol Motor Speedway, giving Mosack an opportunity to make an immediate impact in St. Pete as the Truck Series debuts on a street circuit.
