Lando Norris, the charismatic McLaren driver, has reached his limit with the viral anthem “It’s Friday then.” In a recent interview, he was prompted to complete the lyrics to the catchy tune he famously sang over team radio during Free Practice 1 at the 2020 Tuscan Grand Prix. This time, however, Norris made it abundantly clear that he is exhausted by the running joke.
“Oh my god, I hate… this so much,” Lando laughed, visibly cringing when faced with the iconic lyrics. He added a lighthearted disclaimer, stating, “To all the people in the world, please never play that song when you see me. Thank you very much. Disclaimer, I’ve heard enough of it.”
The “It’s Friday Then” moment has become a defining clip from Norris’ early days in Formula 1, showcasing his jovial personality and earning him a significant fan base. Yet, as his career has soared—transitioning from a promising rookie to a race winner and serious title contender—the anthem that once brought laughter now echoes like a haunting refrain that he cannot escape.
This upbeat song, originally “Push The Feeling On” by Nightcrawlers, gained newfound fame with a remix by Riton and Nightcrawlers featuring Mufasa and Hypeman. Although the track was already popular on social media, Norris’s rendition launched it into the F1 spotlight. Fans have since turned it into a staple at fan meets, media days, and Grand Prix weekends.
Another track frequently associated with Norris is “Stop It” by Fisher. His antics during the 2020 Portuguese Grand Prix are memorable; while discussing a routine radio check with his engineer, Norris playfully sang, “I’m moving up and down, side to side, like a rollercoaster.”
While the 24-year-old is known for his quick wit and humor, his recent remarks suggest that even lighthearted memes can wear thin—particularly when striving for a distinguished legacy in Formula 1. For the time being, Lando fans may want to consider finding a different anthem before he resorts to distributing earplugs.
