Lewis Hamilton expressed optimism after uncovering valuable information from Ferrari’s SF-26 during a testing day marked by tough conditions at the Australian Grand Prix. Competing on Friday, Hamilton was the only driver to place within the top four in both practice sessions, finishing second and fourth respectively, showing promise for the upcoming race.
Strong Practice Performances Against Key Competitors
Hamilton completed the second practice session just 0.001 seconds behind Mercedes teammate George Russell, who was favored for the weekend. Kimi Antonelli held second place, closely ahead of the former teammates, underscoring the competitive nature of the field. While Hamilton experienced a brief off-track moment on the gravel, he remained positive about the car’s capabilities.
Encouraging Outlook Despite Challenges on Track
Reflecting on the day, Hamilton said,
“It’s been a really good day. It’s great to be back on track and properly get going.”
He shared his gratitude for the opportunity to race and the support from fans, noting the day’s difficulties but emphasizing the team’s efficient use of practice laps to gather important data.
“It’s amazing to be here. I feel incredibly grateful to be able to do what I love, and it’s incredible to see so many fans here today,”
Hamilton added.
“It was challenging at times on track, but we maximised our laps and executed to the best of our ability, getting some good information.”
Looking ahead, Hamilton remains motivated:
“There is lots of work to do, but I’m looking forward to getting back in the car tomorrow.”
This enthusiasm highlights his determination to keep improving Ferrari’s performance as he pursues his first grand prix podium with the team this season.
