Lewis Hamilton Shines in Ferrari SF-26 After Tough Testing Start

Lewis Hamilton drove Ferrari’s SF-26 on Thursday morning at the Barcelona circuit, marking a key moment during the pre-season testing. This appearance followed a difficult start to the testing week, with persistent wet weather conditions hampering the team’s efforts earlier.

After several days dominated by rain, Hamilton finally experienced dry weather on the fourth day of the five-day testing period, enabling him to assess the Ferrari SF-26 in more favorable conditions. The change allowed Hamilton to push the car harder after a frustrating session two days earlier, describing the initial phase as “miserable” due to the wet track.

Performance and Challenges During Dry Session

With dry conditions, Hamilton completed 87 laps, demonstrating strong pace despite trailing session leader Kimi Antonelli by 1.573 seconds. However, cooler track temperatures made it difficult to warm the tires effectively, which led to a minor spin during his runs. Despite this, the team progressed through their testing objectives and gathered important data to improve the car.

“It was nice to get out in the dry and do some running,”

Hamilton remarked enthusiastically.

“Obviously, our first day was in miserable wet weather.”

Having only limited prior experience with the SF-26 at Ferrari’s Fiorano track, Hamilton was eager to deepen his understanding of the car’s handling and tire behavior under varying conditions. He tested the C1 and C2 tire compounds, noting the challenges posed by the cold surface temperatures.

“We ran the C2 and the C1. It’s so cold that the tyres aren’t really working all that well. But we got through our programme and gained a bit of an understanding of where the car is at and where we need to improve,”

Hamilton said, emphasizing the progress made despite difficulties.

The Path Forward for Hamilton and Ferrari

Hamilton’s time with Ferrari during pre-season testing has sparked significant interest among fans and analysts, as they watch how this seven-time world champion will adapt to the new team environment. With the technical groundwork laid during these early sessions, expectations are high as the team looks to fine-tune the SF-26 ahead of the upcoming Formula One season.

The insights gained from Thursday’s dry track will inform further development and strategy as Ferrari aims to enhance competitiveness. Hamilton’s comments reflect both the ongoing challenges and the team’s determination to improve performance throughout the testing period and beyond.
