Marco Bezzecchi is refraining from labeling himself a favorite this season, even with Marc Márquez naming him as one of the contenders for the title. As the MotoGP season kicks off with the Thai Grand Prix starting tomorrow, Bezzecchi emphasizes a careful approach to his Marco Bezzecchi season expectations, noting that real assessment of his potential alongside Aprilia will only begin with the race.
Though Bezzecchi consistently placed near the front in pre-season testing and even topped last week’s test at the Thai circuit, he remains wary of overestimating his chances. For him, the upcoming race is the true moment to gauge the competitive field and his standing among the riders.
Perspective on Competitors and Self-Assessment
Bezzecchi acknowledges the caliber of his rivals, including Marc Márquez, his brother Álex Márquez, and Ducati’s Francesco “Pecco” Bagnaia, who have established themselves as front-runners and multiple world champions. He stated,
“I’d like to be in Marc’s position, but I don’t feel like I’m any more of a favorite than him and his brother, or even Pecco.”
He praised Álex Márquez’s progression last season, recognizing the skills and experience that place these riders ahead in the championship race. His focus remains on honing consistency to avoid the fluctuations that hampered his early 2023 performance.
Commitment to Consistency and Realistic Goals for the Season Start
Having reflected on the challenges from last year, Bezzecchi is targeting a stronger and steadier start this time around. He remarked,

“My main goal right now is to start better than last season because I had too many ups and downs in the first part of 2025. I want to be more consistent, I hope to be able to fight for good results, but the priority is to start well. Then, I’ll be ready to change my goals during the year, but I don’t want to stress about it. In the end, we only did two tests.”
This measured mindset highlights his willingness to adapt his ambitions as the season unfolds, rather than rushing into predictions too early.
Outlook for the Thai Grand Prix and Season Ahead
Looking forward to the opening race weekend, Bezzecchi reiterated the status of the defending champion as the rider to beat.
“In the first race, I think the favorite is always the champion. So Marc is clearly the favorite because he dominated last season. Of course, I was competitive in the test and during the race simulation as well. It wasn’t bad, but I want to keep my feet on the ground, stay focused, and try to start the weekend in the best possible way. Then, of course, I’d like to be competitive for the podium or have a good race.”
With his Aprilia team and rivals from Ducati closely watched, Bezzecchi’s cautious yet determined attitude sets the tone for a careful approach to the championship fight. His realistic forecast and emphasis on steady progress could prove key in navigating the challenges of the upcoming season.
