Michael Jordan is off to a flawless start in the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season as Tyler Reddick claimed victory in both opening races, delivering back-to-back wins for Jordan’s 23XI Racing team. However, Bubba Wallace, Jordan’s No. 23 driver, has faced frustration despite showing promise early in the season, highlighting the challenges behind the team’s front-running success.
Wallace finished tenth in the Daytona 500, leading the most laps but failing to convert that dominance into a win. In the subsequent Autotrader 400, he was a strong contender for victory during an overtime restart but was pushed wide, allowing Reddick to secure the win while Wallace fell to eighth place.
Michael Jordan Expresses Mixed Emotions Over Team’s Performance
Following Reddick’s win in Atlanta, Jordan openly praised his lead driver while expressing empathy for Wallace’s difficulties. Although disappointed for Wallace, Jordan still acknowledged the strength of his performance amid challenging circumstances.
“I don’t know what to say,”
Jordan commented, via Daily Express U.S.
“I mean, really, I can’t say anything. Tyler did an unbelievable job.”
He added,
“I mean, both teams did an unbelievable job. Look, I wanted him to win. I feel bad for Bubba because he obviously had an unbelievable day, but Tyler drove his ass off.”
Jordan remarked further,
“I’m very happy for Tyler, I’m very happy for 23XI. I mean the giuys work hard all summer. I know we had our little ordeal, but we never gave up.”
Closing with gratitude for his team’s dedication, he said,
“They kept working hard and this is the fruit of their labors. For us to come out and win the first two races says a lot about our team.”
23XI Racing’s 2026 Season: A Historic Beginning After Legal Victory
The success of 23XI Racing in the early 2026 season follows an important breakthrough at the end of 2025. Michael Jordan and his partners reached a significant settlement with NASCAR, which resulted in major reforms within the racing circuit and favorable conditions for several teams, including 23XI Racing.
Only two weeks into the new season, 23XI maintains a strong hold on the NASCAR Cup Series leaderboard, with Tyler Reddick leading the points at 125 and Bubba Wallace close behind in second place with 85 points. Additionally, their third driver, Riley Herbst, has had a solid start, standing 23rd in points after his career-best eighth-place finish at the Daytona 500.
This strong positioning places Jordan and his team on track for what could be an unprecedented and historic year in NASCAR ownership and competition.
