Bubba Wallace led the pack during Sunday’s Autotrader 400 at Echopark Speedway but ultimately conceded the win to Tyler Reddick after an overtime finish. Wallace’s team owner, Michael Jordan, was there to console the No. 23 driver following the heart-wrenching loss.
Throughout the race, Wallace secured second place in Stage 1, won Stage 2, and recorded the second-highest number of laps led. Heading into overtime, he was closely followed by Tyler Reddick and Carson Hocevar, who lined up on the second row behind him.
As Wallace attempted to block Hocevar from the outside, he was forced to move up the track and was shuffled out of the top-five positions. This maneuver allowed Reddick to seize the lead and maintain it against his challengers, securing a thrilling consecutive victory. Wallace eventually crossed the finish line in eighth place, mirroring a similar outcome from last weekend at Daytona where he also led the most laps but did not claim the win.
Following the race, Wallace appeared visibly disappointed. Michael Jordan tried to uplift his spirits with a comforting embrace. NASCAR reporter Tim Moore captured the moment on X, stating,
“A defeated @BubbaWallace gets comforted by @Jumpman23. Oh so close again for the driver of the 23.”
Review of Reddick’s Historic Comeback and Race Highlights
Tyler Reddick’s road to victory was far from straightforward. After a multi-car collision on lap 224, he was forced to start well outside the top-20 positions. Despite this setback, Reddick led the most laps in the race, totaling 53, and became the sixth NASCAR driver to win the first two races of a season. The last to accomplish this feat was Matt Kenseth in 2009.

Wallace Acknowledges Reddick’s Performance After Daytona Setback
At Daytona, Wallace similarly positioned himself for a win, having claimed victory in the second stage and competing actively for the top spot on the superspeedway. However, a last-lap wreck disrupted his momentum when William Byron collided with him, forcing Wallace to avoid contact and lose position.
Reddick secured the Daytona 500 championship after leading only one lap. During Reddick’s victory lane celebration, Michael Jordan once again consoled Wallace. In the subsequent interview, Wallace praised his teammate while revealing mixed emotions over his own performance.
“I’d have to go back and watch the replay to see what we could have done different. I don’t know, that’s the frustrating thing, climbed out of the car and I always just kind of replay the race in my head. Couldn’t be more proud for the team,” he said.
“Though it’s a big win, I’m super frustrated that I didn’t win,” Bubba Wallace added, “but that doesn’t take away from what they just did. So I want that to be known, but have all the rights to be bummed that it wasn’t us right. But this, this is big. It’s big for MJ. It’s big for all of us.”
Early Season Challenges and Prospects for Wallace
Despite these near misses, Bubba Wallace has started the 2026 NASCAR season with two top-10 finishes, demonstrating consistent competitiveness. The support shown by Michael Jordan reflects a strong team dynamic and commitment to overcoming setbacks. As the season progresses, fans will be watching closely to see if Wallace can convert his promising performances into victories.
