At the recent MotoGPIndonesian Grand Prix in Lombok, riders Fermín Aldeguer and Pedro Acosta achieved a remarkable Murcia MotoGP 1-2 finish, making history for their home region. On Sunday, Aldeguer secured first place riding for Ducati, with Acosta close behind in second on his KTM, demonstrating exceptional skill and determination.
Dominant Performance by Murcia’s Rising MotoGP Talents
The Indonesian GP unfolded as a thrilling testament to the strength of Murcia’s young riders. Aldeguer’s commanding ride on a Ducati led him to victory, while Acosta, despite some technical limitations with his KTM, managed an impressive runner-up position. Acosta acknowledged the challenge posed by his bike compared to Aldeguer’s more powerful machine, emphasizing the barriers they faced.
“It’s been the maximum we could achieve today,”
Acosta shared, reflecting on the weekend’s struggles and ultimate success.
Acosta’s weekend had a rocky start after a crash, prompting him to adapt a more cautious and strategic style during the race. He admitted that a particular section of the track had been problematic all weekend but remained proud of his podium finish amidst stiff competition.
“That second sector has been my Achilles’ heel all weekend, and today was no exception. But we should be happy—back on the podium, consistent and competitive,”
he said proudly, highlighting the significance of their outcome against experienced rivals.
Strategic Racing and Tire Management Shape the Podium
The battle during the race was intense, with Acosta fending off several contenders determined to overtake him. To maintain his position, Acosta executed tactical maneuvers, including letting Alex Rins pass temporarily to warm up his medium tire effectively. This strategy was pivotal in preserving his pace.

“We followed our strategy of getting ahead and holding our ground. I knew it would take longer to warm up my medium tire, so I had to play my cards carefully,”
he explained, revealing the thoughtful decisions behind his ride.
Acosta also dismissed the possibility of using a softer front tire, citing its unsuitability for the demands of the race. He revealed that a gamble on medium tires paid off without significant errors, though he urged his KTM factory team for advancements to close the competitive gap.
“Impossible! It was unthinkable to race with that tire. I only managed two laps with it in qualifying; we simply couldn’t do it. Yesterday, I gambled on the medium, and thankfully, it worked out without major errors. We need to push the factory for improvements to close the gap with the leaders because Ducati and Aprilia are incredibly strong,”
shared the rider from Puerto de Mazarrón.
Historic Milestone for Murcia’s Motorcycling Legacy
This race marked an unprecedented moment as two riders from Murcia stood together on the podium for the first time in MotoGP history. Acosta expressed profound pride not only for his teammate but for what this achievement means for the entire region.
“This was unthinkable! I’m thrilled for our region and for Fermín. It’s fantastic for Murcia, attracting visitors who previously overlooked us. This is a win for everyone,”
he stated, underlining the broader cultural and sporting impact.
While Acosta has already earned two world championships early in his career, he showed humility by recognizing the challenges he still faces in MotoGP’s elite tier. He lauded Aldeguer’s talent and the strategic wisdom of Ducati for securing his teammate early on.
“No, I know the battle I’m fighting and the limitations I face. So, I’m genuinely happy for Fermín; he deserves it. Ducati was smart to sign him early; he earned that seat,”
he noted.
Looking Ahead: Growth and Ambition Fuel Future Success
Acosta’s consistent high finishes and steady improvement this season indicate that the Murcia contingent is rising strongly in the MotoGP ranks. He emphasized how their progress benefits both riders and how it motivates him to push harder.
“This is beneficial for all of us. It pushes me to improve. I’ve become a better pilot since the start of the year, consistently finishing in the top five. Now we need KTM to help us take that next step. Our time will come,”
he expressed optimistically, signaling determination for continued growth.
The Indonesian GP was far more than a race; it was a clarion announcement to the world that Murcia has become a vital force in international motorsport. With Aldeguer and Acosta spearheading this emergence, expectations are high for the region’s future presence on the global MotoGP stage. Fans and experts alike will be watching closely to see how this Murcia MotoGP 1-2 finish shapes the trajectories of both riders and the sport as a whole.
