Pedro Acosta Wins Thailand MotoGP Sprint Amid Controversy

Pedro Acosta secured the win in the 2026 MotoGP Thailand Grand Prix sprint race at Buriram after Marc Márquez received a penalty, requiring him to yield the position. This outcome marked Acosta’s first MotoGP victory, setting an optimistic tone for the season ahead.

Acosta Reflects on Sprint Race and Team Support

Speaking to MotoGP.com shortly after the race, Acosta expressed mixed emotions about his win. He acknowledged the unusual circumstances of Márquez’s concession but remained positive about future prospects.

“Yes, it was really cool to sprint like that against Marc. It’s true that I might not really feel like a winner, because he let me through. But hey, we all have a chance tomorrow. The whole team is working incredibly well. I want to thank everyone in Mattighofen, who worked so hard. Thanks also to everyone who helps me every day, like Marc, and my entire management team. Not forgetting Miguel and Eva, who always find me a place to train. I don’t know, it’s a good way to start the season, but tomorrow we might try to get the real win,”

Acosta said.

Implications for the 2026 MotoGP Season

This sprint victory highlights the close competition expected throughout the 2026 MotoGP season, especially between Acosta and seasoned rival Márquez. With strong team backing from KTM and solid preparation, Acosta aims to build on this initial success to secure further wins at Buriram and beyond.
