Pierre Gasly Affirms Alpine F1 Commitment Despite Major Leadership Shakeup

Pierre Gasly has reaffirmed his dedication to the Alpine Formula 1 program following significant changes in the team‘s leadership. The French driver emphasized that despite recent shifts in management at Renault and the Alpine F1 team’s evolving strategy, the organization remains fully committed to its racing ambitions.

Gasly, now the lead driver for the Enstone-based Alpine outfit, spoke about the recent upheaval after Francois Provost replaced Luca de Meo as Renault group CEO in June. This transition coincides with Renault’s decision to stop developing its own F1 engines, choosing instead to become a Mercedes customer team. Gasly highlighted that the new leadership remains focused on Alpine’s Formula 1 project and long-term goals.

Leadership Changes and Team Direction at Alpine

The new CEO, Francois Provost, has deep roots within Renault’s Formula 1 history and a clear vision for Alpine’s future in the sport. Gasly noted Provost’s strong connection to the organization and his commitment to supporting the team’s performance objectives. He shared insights about Provost’s involvement and dedication, emphasizing a stable foundation despite recent executive shifts.

“It’s really clear. He’s been a very long time working in Renault. He knows the DNA of the group, of the team. He’s been part of it for all these years when Renault has been part of Formula 1. He’s fully committed to the sport, to the Formula 1 team. Obviously wants to see performance, and he’s backing everybody in the team.” —Pierre Gasly, Alpine F1 driver

Additionally, Alpine announced the appointment of Steve Nielsen as managing director, effective September 2025. The experienced motorsport professional will bring further leadership to the team as they continue to refine their strategy. Gasly expressed optimism about the roadmap toward 2026, explaining the decision to postpone full focus to that year as a strategic compromise.

“Looking forward to the future with the team. We know where we’re heading. We know 2025 is a compromise we decided to take at the start of the year to focus on 2026. Hopefully, it’s going to pay dividends next year,” he added.

Gasly’s Confidence in Race Wins with Alpine

Gasly also shared his growing confidence in Alpine’s ability to compete for victories. Reflecting on his performance so far this season, where he has scored 20 points, he expressed belief that his opportunity to win races will come with the right machinery. Although he finished sixth at Silverstone recently, Gasly stressed that the result reassures him about his potential to win when given a competitive car.

“So that’s why I’m quite confident after exactly what you said. When I’m finishing P6 in Silverstone, if I have a race-winning car in my hands, I know I will win the race. At the end, I’m P6, I go back home. So you could say it’s only a P6 and nobody really cares about the P6, which in some ways is true. But then at the same time, I know my time will come.” —Pierre Gasly, Alpine F1 driver

Since his debut in the 2017 season, Gasly has secured one victory in Formula 1—the 2020 Italian Grand Prix at Monza—along with five podium finishes in 167 starts. As Alpine strengthens its operation amid leadership changes and shifts in engine partnerships, Gasly remains determined to build on his career milestones. His optimistic outlook highlights both personal ambition and belief in the team’s trajectory.

Looking Ahead: What Alpine’s Changes Mean for the Future

The leadership reshuffle and strategic adjustment by Alpine signal a blend of challenge and promise. With Francois Provost’s extensive experience and Steve Nielsen’s forthcoming role, Alpine is positioning itself to capitalize on the 2026 regulation changes. Pierre Gasly’s affirmations reflect a focused effort to maintain momentum despite disruption.

The team’s decision to become a Mercedes engine customer represents a significant shift but one that aligns with Alpine’s aim to improve competitiveness. Gasly’s commitment and confidence suggest a driver ready to seize opportunities as the team evolves, aiming to become a stronger contender in the upcoming seasons.
