Rajah Caruth, a driver for Dale Jr.’s JR Motorsports, addressed Bubba Wallace‘s unexpected commendation following the recent Atlanta Cup race, highlighting their close relationship and Wallace’s support throughout his racing journey. The interaction sheds light on camaraderie within NASCAR and the influence Wallace has on emerging drivers.
Rajah Caruth Reflects on Bubba Wallace’s Comments After Atlanta Race
Bubba Wallace narrowly missed winning at Atlanta last week, leading for 46 laps before a critical mistake on the final lap dropped him to eighth place. Despite the setback, Wallace acknowledged Caruth’s performance in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race held the previous day.
“So unfortunate. But man, what a race car we had today. You know what I learned a lot from is Rajah yesterday. He had a bad fast car, and he finished second, first stage, and won the second stage, just like me. And I was like, “This car is so fast; don’t do anything to jeopardize a good finish,”
Wallace stated during a post-race interview. NASCAR reporter John Newby later asked Caruth about Wallace’s remarks, to which Caruth responded with a smile, implying the praise might be playful rather than entirely serious.
“I don’t think he was telling the truth. I think he was trolling,” Caruth replied with a smile, “That’s big bro, he’s literally been there every step of my career. Literally from my first ever Legend Card race, my first O’Reilly race, first Truck race. Oli Buff, he’s been there so um. I don’t know. I feel like he was trolling a little bit.”
Caruth’s Continued Progress and Performance Highlights
The 23-year-old Caruth recently earned his second straight top-10 finish at the Bennett Transportation & Logistics 250, where he led laps and recorded the fastest lap at Daytona. His eighth-place finish at Atlanta matched Wallace’s own result in the Cup race, showcasing both drivers’ competitiveness.
Bubba Wallace Commits to Supporting Fellow NASCAR Driver Bread Perez
In another display of support within the NASCAR community, Bubba Wallace pledged $15,000 to assist Bread Perez in securing a one-off ride in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series at Martinsville. Perez, who balances racing ambitions with jobs as a tire specialist and driving instructor, has been raising funds to compete in select NASCAR events. Wallace’s contribution and public backing drew praise from fans, celebrating his generosity.

“I like martinsville😉 I’m in for 15k. Let’s get some more funds for my dawg here to go race! @Blaney @KevinHarvick @DaleJr,” Bubba Wallace wrote on X.
Upcoming Races and Expectations for Bubba Wallace
Wallace will next compete at Circuit of the Americas (COTA), where he demonstrated strong potential last year by starting on the front row, leading laps, and winning the initial stage despite finishing 20th overall. The DuraMax Texas Grand Prix at COTA is scheduled for Sunday, March 1, at 3:30 PM ET, where Wallace aims to capture a win after his near-miss in Atlanta.
This ongoing pursuit of victory, coupled with his willingness to support fellow drivers like Bread Perez, illustrates Wallace’s evolving role both on and off the track. Rajah Caruth’s close ties with Wallace further emphasize the mentorship and relationships shaping NASCAR’s new generation of competitors.
.@BubbaWallace said that he learned a valuable lesson from @rajahcaruth_, but Rajah doesn't fully see it that way. Thinks Bubba might be trolling him.
