After 214 starts over eight seasons in the NASCAR Cup Series, Ryan Preece claimed his first victory Wednesday night at Bowman Gray Stadium during the Clash event. Although the Clash is not a points race, Preece’s triumph gave him a long-awaited moment in Victory Lane, finally ending a lengthy journey marked by persistence and determination.
Breaking Through After Years of Struggle
Preece’s NASCAR career faced significant challenges, including losing his ride in 2024 after Stewart-Haas Racing closed its doors. His path to success seemed uncertain until Brad Keselowski and RFK Racing offered him the No. 60 Ford seat. This opportunity proved pivotal as Preece worked tirelessly to regain competitive form within the sport.
Speaking to FOX Sports’ Regan Smith in Victory Lane, Preece was visibly emotional about the win.
I don’t even know what to say,
he admitted.
To be honest with you, it’s been a f*cking long road. It’s the Clash but man, it’s been years and years of grinding, and I’m just super thankful for Brad Keselowski, Kroger, Coca-Cola, all our partners — break open the Pappy — Jack Roush, the Fenway Group. Two years ago, I didn’t think I was gonna have a job. I thought I was going back to Connecticut. Man, I’m just super, super, super emotional.

Performance Highlights from the Clash
In 2025, Preece had one of his best seasons yet, narrowly missing the playoffs and finishing 18th in the points standings. His speed carried him into the Clash, where he led 27 of the 200 laps and remained a strong contender throughout the race. The final lap became the defining moment, securing the decisive victory that had eluded him for so long.
Reflecting on the race, Preece said,
We had a really good car, and I felt like we were fighting through adversity all day,
adding,
Trying to come from the back, and we got a lot of good spots and when we were putting rain tires on — this is as much a mental game as anything, and I felt beat up. We had a couple restarts go our way and before you know it, we were in the front two rows and then the claws just come out. … I’m speechless, man. That last two laps — I’m speechless.

As he savors this moment, Preece’s attention turns to maintaining momentum for the upcoming Daytona 500, a marquee event that could further elevate his career.
With Brad Keselowski’s ongoing support and a strong partnership with sponsors like Kroger and Coca-Cola, Preece is poised to build on his success. His victory at Bowman Gray Stadium energizes fans and competitors alike, bringing renewed excitement to the NASCAR Cup Series early in the 2026 season.
