Scott Dixon on Alex Palou dominance: Fans may dislike it, but the champion’s season is truly tremendous

IndyCar veteran Scott Dixon has spoken about his Chip Ganassi Racing teammate Alex Palou‘s commanding performance during the 2025 season, noting that while some fans may not favor Palou’s dominance, the achievements are undeniably impressive. With the season well underway, Palou currently leads the Drivers‘ standings by a substantial margin, showcasing why his campaign is being described as remarkable.

After 14 rounds, Alex Palou stands firmly at the top with 590 points. Throughout the season, he has secured eight Grand Prix victories, five pole positions, and demonstrated consistent excellence with 11 top-five and 12 top-ten finishes. His lead is significant, with second-place Pato O’Ward trailing by 121 points at 469, reflecting Palou’s control over the championship battle so far.

Scott Dixon reflects on Palou’s clear lead in the 2025 title race

Scott Dixon, a six-time IndyCar champion and teammate to Palou, recently shared his perspective on the unfolding championship situation during the Pit Pass Indy podcast. He acknowledged that, unlike previous seasons, the current title race lacks uncertainty due to Palou’s dominance.

“I think it’s different from year to year, you know. Scenarios can change, things that are out of your control, but yeah, you know, I don’t think, honestly, I don’t think Alex has got too much to worry about. To be honest, I don’t think there is much of a Championship fight this year, you know, the situation and it was a couple of years ago, where Alex came into the last race clear champion and then a second place was even tied up with us. You know, there was just no real race. I think as a competitor and as a fan, you don’t like to see that, but you gotta congratulate them on a tremendous year.” —Scott Dixon, IndyCar driver

This season holds only three races remaining, with the upcoming Bitnile.com Grand Prix of Portland set to take place shortly. Palou has the opportunity to clinch the championship as early as this weekend, a testament to the lead he has built. The possibility of an early title win underscores his consistency and skill behind the wheel.

Scott Dixon’s challenge for second place in the final standings

While Palou edges closer to securing the championship, Scott Dixon remains focused on battling for the runner-up position. Currently third in the standings with 392 points, Dixon trails Pato O’Ward, who occupies second place. The remaining races of the season will be critical for both drivers as they contest for the highest possible finish behind Palou.

Dixon emphasized his determination during the same podcast, highlighting a tough race in Toronto that impacted his points relative to O’Ward but maintaining that the fight for second place is far from over.

“Yeah, we definitely be trying, I think honestly, Toronto was a bit of a rough one for us, especially with the championship gap to Pato. It’s still not out of contention that’s for sure.” —Scott Dixon, IndyCar driver

To improve his position, Dixon will need strong results, including podium finishes in all remaining events, beginning with the Portland Grand Prix. Additionally, Dixon’s chances may improve if O’Ward experiences challenges in his #5 Arrow McLaren car during the final rounds. The pressure on these top drivers will be intense as the 2025 IndyCar season enters its closing phase.

With three races left, the battle for the championship and the runner-up spot promises competitive racing and strategic efforts from key contenders. Alex Palou’s impressive form defines this season, while Scott Dixon and Pato O’Ward continue to push hard toward the finish.
