Sepang MotoGP Test Day 3: Rain Halts Faster Laps, Mir Leads

The third and last day of the Sepang MotoGP test unfolded on Thursday, with teams closely watching Yamaha’s presence after the factory paused their new V4 bike all Wednesday to resolve a technical problem discovered on day one. The focus remained on improving lap times during the scheduled 10 am to 6 pm sessions, though a rain shower in the afternoon cut short hopes of faster laps.

Joan Mir Tops Times Before Weather Interrupts

Honda’s Joan Mir led the morning pace, posting the fastest lap among riders who hit the track, while VR46’s Franco Morbidelli stood out as the only other competitor to clock a lap under 1 minute 57 seconds. Despite the challenging conditions, these performances highlighted competitive progress amid variable track situations.

Marc Marquez Shifts Focus to Aerodynamics

Reigning world champion Marc Marquez began the week strong with the quickest time on day one but turned his attention toward aerodynamic development on day two, finishing 15th overall. Like several other teams including Ducati, Marquez aims to finalize aerodynamic solutions during this final day of testing, possibly conducting some race simulations as well.

Testing Schedule and Team Objectives

The day featured practice start periods midday and late afternoon, designed to simulate race conditions. Teams used these opportunities to gauge setups and strategy ahead of the season, despite the limiting influence of weather on outright speed improvements.
