Four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Tony Stewart made his return to the NASCAR Truck Series at Daytona, driving laps during practice for the first time since 2005. Though the session was brief and only included practice laps, Stewart shared his initial impressions after exiting the truck, expressing his excitement and highlighting how much he still needed to adapt.
Adjusting to New Truck Dynamics and Technology
Stewart spoke with FOX NASCAR on FS1 about the differences he noticed compared to his previous racing experience, emphasizing how the truck’s steering and controls required adjustment.
I still need to make more laps. I wish we had another hour where we get some drafting practice. But just little things here and there, steering box ratio’s a lot different than I thought it would be,
Stewart said.
I’m gonna have to move my mirror around. We thought we were gonna have to move numbers on the dash. It’s just little stuff that when you drive these things you get it sorted out pretty quick but, you know trying to do it in 15 minutes. You can do it in the shop all you want, but until you get on the racetrack you don’t really know what you’ve got, so.

Significance of Stewart’s Return with Kaulig Racing and Ram
Stewart’s return to NASCAR after more than a decade is also notable for the partnerships involved. He is driving a Ram truck for Kaulig Racing in the upcoming Fresh From Florida 250, which marks the brand’s first NASCAR race appearance since 2012. This layered comeback connects Stewart, one of the sport’s legends, with both his longtime passion and a major automotive brand making its return to the series.
Stewart Reflects on Changes Since His Last NASCAR Appearance
Despite limited practice, Stewart thoroughly enjoyed being back on the track, noting how much the vehicles and racing rules have evolved since his previous NASCAR participation. He also mentioned how his experience with iRacing influenced his approach and mindset on the real track.
But it’s cool. Not gonna lie it was fun to get back out there, even by myself. It was really cool to be out there. But I was thinking about my iRacing guys while we were out there going, ‘Yeah, I gotta hold my hands really still’ even though we didn’t really do a full-blown qualifying run. So I’m excited about it. I mean they definitely drive different than I thought. I mean this technology’s changed so much and the NASCAR rules have changed so much…
Stewart continued.
It’s definitely different than what I remember last time I was here, but it was a lot of fun.
Implications and What to Expect at Daytona
Stewart’s NASCAR return at Daytona is generating excitement for fans and competitors alike, as he bridges past and present racing eras. His adaptation to new truck technology and the evolving sport will be closely followed during the Fresh From Florida 250. For Ram and Kaulig Racing, this event represents both a brand and racing milestone, setting the stage for a competitive and highly anticipated race.
