Toprak Razgatlioglu’s Surprising First MotoGP Win—In a Tuk-Tuk!

Toprak Razgatlioglu and Jack Miller captured attention with their win in a lively MotoGP Tuk-Tuk race held Sunday morning at the Thai Grand Prix. The event took place right after the morning warm-up and featured 11 pairs of riders teaming up for a unique challenge that included swapping roles between driver and passenger mid-race.

The race showcased energetic performances, with rookie Toprak Razgatlioglu and four-time premier-class winner Jack Miller entertaining the crowd by pulling wheelies during the warm-up lap and continuing their showmanship by driving on two wheels through corners. Their playful approach didn’t stop them from securing a popular victory that delighted the crowd.

Riders Reflect on the Unconventional Win

When asked about his feelings on this unexpected win, reigning WorldSBK champion Razgatlioglu stated,

“I’m very happy! Jack is also crazy, so we really enjoyed it!”

He added,

“Before the start we spoke about if we can make a wheelie. Finally, we did. That’s incredible! We really had fun.”

“Jack also did two-wheels in the corner, we tried everything! I think everyone watching enjoyed it as much as we did,”

Razgatlioglu shared.

Jack Miller also expressed enthusiasm, saying,

The Tuk-Tuk did what it needed to do, I had a fantastic team-mate in Toprak – we got the win and looked good doing so!

Responding to a comment about Pramac team director Gino Borsoi’s worried look, Miller joked,

I all ended well. We know what we’re doing, just about! A few damaged Tuk-Tuks but it’s all good!

Race Details and Recent Performances

During the previous day’s Sprint race, Miller was the leading Yamaha rider, finishing 15th, while Razgatlioglu experienced a crash but managed to finish 20th in his MotoGP debut. The Tuk-Tuk race offered a lighter, entertaining contrast to the usual intense competition on the circuit.

Penalty Controversies Affecting Final Scores

The second place in the Tuk-Tuk challenge went to the Tech3 KTM pairing of Enea Bastianini and Maverick Vinales, followed by LCR Honda riders Johann Zarco and Diogo Moreira in third. However, penalty drama unfolded once again, echoing Saturday’s Sprint race issues.

Aprilia’s Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi controversially overtook Ducati Lenovo’s Marc Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia by cutting across the grass at the final corner. As a result, a penalty was imposed that adjusted the standings, favoring Marquez and Bagnaia as happened during the previous day’s race.

Looking Ahead Beyond the Tuk-Tuk Triumph

Despite the lighthearted nature of this event, the riders remain focused on their professional goals. Miller expressed his hopes saying,

I hope for [a MotoGP win] in the future with a bike!

Toprak Razgatlioglu’s unexpected victory in this memorable Tuk-Tuk race highlights his adaptability and passion, promising excitement for the season ahead. Fans can expect both riders to continue pushing hard in the official MotoGP events, aiming for victories on the bike itself.
