At EchoPark Speedway in Hampton, Georgia, rain forced the cancellation of NASCAR Cup Series qualifying for the Autotrader 400, resulting in Tyler Reddick securing the pole position for Sunday’s race. The starting lineup was determined using NASCAR’s performance metric, which combines 70 percent of the previous race’s finishing position with 30 percent of the owner points standings, placing Reddick at the front after his victory in the Daytona 500 and his current lead in the standings.
Qualifying Cancellation Alters Race Preparation
Joey Logano, who finished third at Daytona, will start alongside Reddick in second place. Because of the rain washout, drivers will have their first laps on the Atlanta track during the race itself, beginning at 3 p.m. ET on FOX and the FOX Sports app. Teams typically avoid practice sessions at drafting tracks following the Daytona 500 due to the high risk of crashes, which can overshadow the benefits of additional track time.
Reddick Adjusts to Reduced Activity Before the Race
After a busy week filled with media obligations as the Daytona 500 winner, Reddick welcomed the lighter schedule ahead of Sunday’s event. Reflecting on his preparation, he said,
“There’s a number of things that have been out of sorts, if you will, but for the most part, it was a normal week on the prep side,”
Tyler Reddick stated.
“So I think I’ll be good.”
Race Day Weather Could Favor Performance
The forecast for race day calls for cool temperatures in the 40s with no anticipated rainfall, providing favorable conditions for the drivers and teams. With qualifying canceled and practice limited, race strategy and driver skill will be critical factors in how the competition unfolds at Atlanta. The adjustments made this weekend highlight the unpredictable nature of NASCAR events and their impact on race preparation.
