Tyler Reddick Eyes Historic Third Win at COTA Sunday

NASCAR has kicked off its season with two thrilling races, prompting questions about who can challenge team owners Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin along with their 23XI Racing teams, led by emerging talents Tyler Reddick and Bubba Wallace. Despite legal disputes with NASCAR over antitrust concerns that were settled in December, 23XI Racing remains focused and competitive.

The upcoming third race, scheduled for Sunday at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas, represents a distinct challenge compared to the earlier drafting tracks this season. This road course has proven favorable to Tyler Reddick, who aims to secure a historic third consecutive victory to open the year.

Tyler Reddick’s Success at the Circuit of the Americas

Since NASCAR’s return to COTA in 2020, the track has produced some memorable battles. After wins by Chase Elliott in 2021 and Ross Chastain in 2022, Reddick emerged victorious in 2023, defeating Kyle Busch in a race featuring 16 lead changes and over 3,000 green-flag passes. This marked Reddick’s fourth career win and his first with 23XI Racing.

Other drivers, including William Byron and defending race winner Christopher Bell, have also demonstrated skill on this demanding circuit—shaped by sharp turns resembling an Etch A Sketch design. Bell’s win last year came in a close contest against Byron, while road racing specialist Shane van Gisbergen, despite leading 23 laps, fell short and finished sixth.

Historic Milestone Within Reach for Reddick

Heading into the Texas race, 23XI Racing carries strong momentum. Tyler Reddick leads the points standings with 125, holding a 40-point advantage over teammate Bubba Wallace, who has led the most laps this season. If Reddick wins at COTA again, he would become the first NASCAR driver ever to start a season with three straight victories. Only five drivers in history—Matt Kenseth (2009), Jeff Gordon (1997), David Pearson (1976), Bob Welborn (1959), and Marvin Panch (1957)—have managed to win the first two races consecutively.

If at any point during this week I’m running out of reasons to be motivated to go win, I’ll keep that in my back pocket, for sure,

Reddick said.

You know, it’s cool to be able, or have the opportunity to potentially do things like that, but … it’s all about just doing everything I can and showing up every week being as prepared as I can.

– Tyler Reddick

Bubba Wallace’s Role and COTA’s Challenge

Bubba Wallace remains a strong contender, having led in laps during races in Daytona and Atlanta. While Wallace has the potential to challenge for the win in Austin, his previous finish of 20th at COTA illustrates the difficult nature of this road course. Wallace himself joked, Pray for me, acknowledging the circuit’s challenges as the team aims to extend its early-season success.

What’s at Stake This Weekend in Austin

The outcome at COTA will test whether 23XI Racing’s dominant start continues on a more technical track, which rewards precision in the mix of tight left and right turns. For Tyler Reddick, a victory would not only reinforce his growing reputation but place him alone in NASCAR history with a perfect three-win season opener.

As the season progresses, the performance of 23XI Racing and its drivers will remain under close watch, especially with the varying demands of upcoming race venues. The ability to adapt and maintain momentum will be key to their championship aspirations.
