Tyler Reddick spent much of his recent NASCAR offseason focusing on his young son’s health and supporting his family, sidelining many usual offseason activities. The 23XI Racing driver revealed how his son’s medical challenges deeply affected the length and quality of his break from racing as he prepared for the upcoming season.
Tyler Reddick’s Son Faces Serious Health Challenges During Offseason
Reddick’s son, Rookie, was diagnosed with a tumor impacting his kidney and heart, requiring surgery in late October of last year. The operation successfully removed the affected tissue and helped improve Rookie’s heart function. This crucial period left Reddick without the time or energy for his regular offseason routines as he remained by his son’s side throughout his recovery.
Speaking on the NASCAR Live podcast on January 29, Reddick reflected on how the weeks following the 2025 Cup season blurred into a taxing experience.
“I didn’t do sh*t. I mean, it’s just, it’s life sometimes we spent a lot of time at the tail end of the season in the hospital. … The off season just flew right by, to be honest. So, yeah, I wish the off season was probably like another two months longer, just so I could feel completely caught up. But I mean, it’s just how life can be sometimes,” Tyler Reddick said (09:50 onwards).
“The biggest thing is family’s healthy, rookie’s healthy, we’re all back to being home. That’s what’s most important.”
Performance and Legal Developments Define Reddick’s Recent NASCAR Period
Despite personal struggles off the track, Reddick maintained his competitive edge by qualifying for the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs for the fifth consecutive year in 2025. However, he did not secure any wins, concluding the season ninth in the final championship standings — marking his third straight top-10 finish.
During the offseason, 23XI Racing, Reddick’s team, resolved a lengthy legal dispute with NASCAR that spanned over a year and included a week of court testimony in December 2025. The settlement ensured the preservation of the team’s charters, allowing Reddick to enter the 2026 season confidently behind the wheel of the No. 45 Toyota.

Uncertainty Surrounds Reddick’s Contract Status Heading Into the New Season
As the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series approaches, Reddick remains unsigned for the 2027 season, placing him among approximately 20 drivers without a confirmed contract for next year. Despite winning the regular season title in 2024 and several strong finishes last season, his contract with 23XI Racing will expire at the end of 2026.
Addressing this situation in an interview with Fox Sports’ Bob Pockrass, Reddick expressed confidence in his approach and future prospects.
“I try and leave every last ounce of myself out there on the racetrack every single week. As long as I stay committed to being myself, being who I am and driving to my limit and continuing to find ways to improve, I’m not worried about it,” Tyler Reddick said (via Fox Sports).
Weather Concerns Loom Over Season Opener at Bowman Gray Stadium
The 2026 NASCAR Cup Series is scheduled to kick off with an exhibition non-points race at Bowman Gray Stadium this weekend. However, a winter storm forecast has placed the event under a weather watch, raising the possibility of postponement and adding further unpredictability to the start of Reddick’s season.
With the personal and professional challenges Tyler Reddick has faced, his resilience will likely be tested throughout the coming months. Reddick’s dedication to family and racing amid adversity underscores the complex balance professional drivers often must maintain. How he navigates the uncertain contract situation and adapts to any weather disruptions in the early season may play key roles in shaping his immediate future in NASCAR.
