Tyler Reddick’s Emotional Daytona 500 Win After Tough Year

At the Daytona 500 on Sunday, Tyler Reddick secured a hard-fought win in his No. 45 23XI Racing Toyota, emerging triumphant amid a chaotic final lap that saw the leader caught up in a crash. This victory at stock car racing’s most prestigious event marks a significant milestone for Reddick, who navigated both intense competition and personal struggles throughout the past year.

Reflecting on a Difficult Season Before the Win

After going winless throughout 2025, Reddick entered the playoffs relying on points but was eliminated early in the Round of 8. The season starkly contrasted his 2024 performance, when he reached the Championship 4 with three wins and 21 top-10 finishes. The disappointment of the previous year weighed heavily on him.

To have last year play out the way that it did was rough,

Reddick said in a post-race media session.

You got all these expectations to win multiple races… and we didn’t really live up to those last year. So we had a lot of hard conversations in the offseason on top of everything else that was going on.

Personal Challenges Beyond the Track

Adding to the pressure of an unsettled season, Reddick faced a family crisis when an infant son, Rookie, was diagnosed with a tumor in his chest in October 2025. This medical emergency profoundly affected Reddick’s emotional state during a taxing period.

Everything else happening outside of the racetrack was not easy to manage,

Reddick explained.

The only time I’ve ever felt the level of emotions I did [after winning the Daytona 500] was winning the pole at the Charlotte Roval when Rookie was in the hospital.

Although Reddick did not provide updates on Rookie’s health following the Daytona 500, the young boy was present in victory lane alongside Reddick’s wife, Alexa, and older son, Beau.

Support from Team and Leadership Strengthens Resolve

Throughout these challenges, Reddick credited his team’s unwavering support and the confidence of 23XI Racing’s owners, Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin, as key to his resilience and success. Both Jordan and Hamlin had approached Reddick during his tenure at Richard Childress Racing to bring him onto their team, expressing strong faith in his potential.

To have someone like Michael Jordan believe in me enough to want me to drive here, someone like Denny Hamlin to believe in me enough to want me to drive here, then deliver in these clutch moments… is the type of stuff that you just love to be able to do,

Reddick shared.

Hamlin reflected on Reddick’s talent and the significance of the Daytona 500 victory:

Winning a race like this so early in the season, it’s just gonna relieve a lot of self-pressure that Tyler puts on himself, and hopefully he can race this season loose like he always has.

Jordan likened the win to “like winning a championship,” expressing the magnitude of the achievement for the team. Hamlin, a three-time Daytona 500 winner himself, noted the unique yet powerful feeling of such a triumph as an owner.

Looking Ahead: Reddick Focuses on the Championship Chase

With this victory boosting his momentum, Tyler Reddick now aims to maintain his strong early-season standing in NASCAR’s reintroduced Chase format, which features the top 16 drivers competing for the championship over the final ten races. Reddick currently leads the points standings by 12 over Joey Logano, setting the stage for an intense championship battle.

The NASCAR Cup Series will return to competition on February 22 at EchoPark Speedway in Atlanta, where Reddick will look to build on his Daytona 500 success and solidify his position among the sport’s elite.
