Two-time IndyCar champion Will Power attended the 2026 Miami E-Prix, the third race of the Formula E season held at the Miami International Autodrome, where he was impressed by the advanced technology in the electric racing series. Power, who recently joined Andretti Global’s IndyCar program, expressed interest in experiencing the electric single-seater firsthand.
After spending 17 years with Team Penske, Power announced his departure following the conclusion of the 2025 season and signed with Andretti Global, replacing Colton Herta, who moved on to become a Cadillac F1 reserve driver and took a full-time Formula 2 role. Power began with Andretti on January 1, 2026, starting a new chapter in his racing career.
Transition to Andretti Global Opens New Possibilities for Power
Since joining Andretti, Power has already competed in the 24 Hours of Daytona and may have the chance to participate in other motorsport disciplines. His presence at the Miami E-Prix last weekend marked a crossover event within the Andretti stable.
The motorsport landscape for Andretti has recently shifted as Michael Andretti sold his majority shares, stepping away from his leadership role. Dan Towriss was appointed CEO of Andretti Global, and under TWG Global’s ownership, various motorsport endeavors—including Cadillac F1, Andretti Global’s IndyCar and Formula E programs, plus Spire Motorsport—are now organized under the TWG Motorsports umbrella.

Will Power Impressed by the Quiet and Advanced Features of Formula E Cars
Power was struck by the technological innovation in the Formula E cars, highlighting their quiet operation and sophisticated software during races. He expressed eagerness to get behind the wheel of one, curious about how the vehicle performs and feels on the track.
“It’s nice to be able to have a conversation. There’s no noise so it’s really cool, like, the technology on these cars blows my mind. All the stuff that’s going on while the drivers are driving around with the software but yeah, very nice. The first thing I ask is when I can drive one. Like I want to know what it feels like. They look really cool on track and it’s cool to be here.” – Will Power, IndyCar Champion
Interest in Formula E Racing Strategies and Next-Gen Car Performance
Joining Power at the Miami E-Prix was his Andretti Global teammate Kyle Kirkwood, who has experience driving a previous generation Formula E car. Together, they supported Andretti’s Formula E drivers Felipe Drugovich and Jake Dennis during the event. Power was fascinated by the unique racing strategies applied to the Gen3 Evo cars, particularly how drivers manage energy conservation and vehicle dynamics.
“I like it. It’s definitely a different driving style and obviously a lot of strategy to play out in the race, the way you save energy and so on. And the cars would be incredibly different having a differential in the front and tuning that. I’d like to drive one just to see, what does it feel like? How does it behave?” – Will Power, IndyCar Champion
He also showed anticipation for the upcoming generation of Formula E cars, which are expected to deliver up to 800 horsepower, elevating the performance and excitement levels within the series.
Significance of Power’s Growing Interest in Electric Racing
Will Power’s curiosity and enthusiasm for Formula E technology underscore the increasing appeal of electric racing among drivers traditionally associated with internal combustion motorsport. His involvement with Andretti Global and exposure to multiple racing formats highlight a potential crossover of talent between disciplines, reflecting wider industry shifts toward electrification and innovation.
As Formula E continues to evolve with new generations of cars and more intricate racing tactics, it is likely that drivers like Power will play an important role in bridging the gap between traditional racing and the electric future. His expressed desire to experience Formula E vehicles personally could signal further participation or influence in the series moving forward, enriching the ongoing development of electric motorsport.
