Adelaide Awaits Crucial Formula 1 Cars Ahead of Race

A collection of historic Formula 1 cars, including two 2001 Arrows A22s, a 1987 March 871, and a 1974 Hesketh 308, has been delayed after their shipment from the United Kingdom. These vehicles were missing from the practice sessions but organisers hope they will be ready to race by Saturday at Victoria Park.

New Entries to the 2026 Adelaide F1 Event

All four cars caught up in the delay are fresh additions for the expanding Adelaide event in 2026. The pair of Arrows A22 cars stand out with their notable V10 engines expected to add excitement to the grid. Experienced ex-F1 drivers Thierry Boutsen and Martin Donnelly are scheduled to pilot the March and Hesketh models, respectively.

Martin Donnelly’s Return to Adelaide Circuit

Martin Donnelly, famed for surviving a severe crash at the 1990 Spanish Grand Prix that prematurely ended his F1 career, had never previously driven an F1 car at Adelaide. However, he changed that by taking the wheel of an Arrows A10B during a recent demonstration. While he has not returned to Formula 1 competition, Donnelly remains active, competing in various racing categories and participating in F1 showcase events.

Overview of the Adelaide F1 Field and Notable Participants

The race lineup features 11 cars, including two Ferrari 156/85s, a Jaguar R2, Lola LC88, March 701, and Simtek 951. Former Ferrari driver Stefan Johansson has become a regular at the Adelaide Motor Festival and will again represent Ferrari behind the wheel.

Anticipated Impact of Vehicle Arrivals on the Event

The arrival and participation of these delayed classic F1 cars are crucial for maintaining the event’s growing appeal and delivering an authentic racing experience at Victoria Park. Organisers are optimistic the vehicles will join the competition shortly, enhancing the spectacle as the Adelaide crowd looks forward to a highly anticipated race week.
