Indianapolis 500 fans will soon enjoy a new way to honor a longstanding racing tradition by sipping milk featuring images of celebrated winners, including Alex Palou. Beginning March 1, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, American Dairy Association Indiana, and Prairie Farms Family of Companies will relaunch their collaboration to offer specially designed milk bottles and cartons across 20 states, primarily in the Midwest and South, celebrating the race‘s most notable champions.
Expanded Reach for the Milk Campaign Featuring Race Champions
This year’s promotion has grown significantly, expanding from 13,000 retailers in eight states last year to 25,000 retailers in 20 states. Fans will be able to find single-serve milk products packaged with images of past Indianapolis 500 winners, encouraging a renewed connection to one of the sport’s trademark victory moments.
A Tradition Starting with Louis Meyer and Now Featuring Current Stars
The milk-drinking celebration dates back to 1936 when Louis Meyer famously drank buttermilk after his win, although the original buttermilk flavor is no longer featured in the current product lineup. Instead, the packaging includes whole vitamin D, 2%, and premium flavored milk products from the Prairie Farms and Hiland brands bearing images of recent and historic champions.
Featured Indy Winners on Various Milk Products
Defending IndyCar and 500 champion Alex Palou is showcased on the whole vitamin D milk containers, while Josef Newgarden, both the 2023 and 2024 winner, appears on the 2% milk products. Alexander Rossi, who triumphed in the race’s centennial event in 2016, is featured on premium chocolate milk. Scott Dixon, the 2008 winner, is highlighted on 1% chocolate milk, and Helio Castroneves, a four-time 500 champion, is represented on premium strawberry milk packaging.
Educational Outreach and Distribution Efforts
In addition to retail distribution, approximately 200 million half-pint cartons decorated with the message Winners Drink Milk will be delivered to schools across the 20 states participating in the initiative. This effort aims to reinforce the historic ties between the sport, its champions, and the tradition of drinking milk after victory.
Celebrating Racing Heritage Through Shared Traditions
The continuation and expansion of this campaign not only honors drivers like Alex Palou, Scott Dixon, and Helio Castroneves, but also connects fans and communities across multiple states through a cherished symbol of victory. The initiative helps preserve the unique culture of the Indianapolis 500 while promoting dairy consumption among consumers and students alike.
