Alex Rins has urged Yamaha to broaden its development efforts to support all riders, as Fabio Quartararo prepares to switch to Honda in 2027. With Rins’ contract ending in 2026, the Spanish racer faces a critical moment in his career while seeking more attention from the iconic motorcycle manufacturer.
Following two challenging years marked by injuries and Yamaha’s struggles with bike performance, Rins is determined to maximize his opportunities within MotoGP. The 2023 season is his third year with Yamaha, a brand renowned for racing success but currently grappling with competitive setbacks.
Rins’ Journey Through Injury and Recovery Highlights His Resilience
Rins has experienced significant obstacles, including a serious crash at Mugello while riding for LCR Honda, which tested his physical and mental endurance. Despite these hardships, he secured a memorable win at Austin during the 2023 season, an achievement that showcased his determination. Now, he wants Yamaha to distribute development focus more evenly among all its team members.
Rins Voices Expectations After Pre-Season Testing in Buriram
After the recent tests in Buriram, Rins openly expressed his hope that Yamaha would begin to value feedback from riders beyond Quartararo.
Now that Fabio seems set to change teams next year, let’s see if they start paying more attention to the rest of us,
Rins declared emphatically.

Balancing Yamaha’s Priorities Among Its Riders
Rins understands why Yamaha has concentrated on Quartararo, given his impressive record, including a 2021 world championship. However, he insists that his own experience and input are equally vital to the team’s progress.
It’s not that Yamaha hasn’t listened to me or Jack [Miller], but it’s true that they’ve been very focused on Fabio, and he has earned that with his results,
Rins explained.
He highlighted how Yamaha’s bike development has largely catered to Quartararo’s style.
Yamaha has put a lot of trust in Fabio, and last year’s bike was very much made to his liking. The same goes for the V4 engine, where improvements have consistently been directed toward him first and then to the others.
Technical Challenges and Areas for Improvement on the M1
Despite excitement about Yamaha’s new engine, Rins is pragmatic about the M1’s current limitations. He emphasized the need to address fundamental aspects of the bike’s performance before increasing power.
We definitely lack top speed, but before we tackle that, we need to improve our traction, cornering, and overall bike maneuverability. If we don’t address these aspects, it won’t matter if we gain 50 more horsepower; we won’t be able to go fast,
he asserted, outlining critical priorities for Yamaha’s development team.
Yamaha Faces a New Chapter as Quartararo Departs
With Quartararo’s impending exit, Yamaha’s internal dynamics are set to change dramatically, placing greater pressure on both the manufacturer and riders like Rins to prove their worth. The Spanish rider is poised to take a more prominent role within the team but stresses that equal focus from Yamaha is essential to remain competitive.
The racing world will be watching closely to see if Yamaha responds to Rins’ call for a more balanced approach to development. His determination signals that he intends to fight hard for Yamaha’s attention and performance improvements as the 2026 season approaches.
