Francesco Bagnaia is approaching the 2026 MotoGP season with renewed determination to overcome last year’s struggles and push Ducati forward. After a challenging 2025 marked by inconsistent results despite four race wins, the Italian rider is aiming to challenge reigning champion and teammate Marc Marquez, seeking to elevate both his own performance and the Ducati brand.
Positive Impressions from Valencia Testing Fuel Optimism
At the November post-season Valencia test, Bagnaia trialed the new Ducati GP26 prototype, which left him hopeful about the season ahead. Reflecting on the experience, he shared,
“The prototype I tried in Valencia was good. I enjoyed the day,”
during the recent Ducati MotoGP team launch. He felt an immediate improvement in lap times and comfort, contrasting with the difficulties he faced during the 2025 campaign.
He added,
“Luckily, we had the race two days before. I was struggling during the weekend, and in the Tuesday test, I was feeling better, and also the pace was improving.”
This progress suggests that Ducati’s upgrades may address the issues that hampered his consistency last season.
Determined to Intensify the Championship Battle
Bagnaia’s focus is set not only on recovering his form but also on applying pressure on Marc Marquez and the escalating competition within MotoGP. He expressed a strong desire to impact the title fight more significantly, stating,
“I would just like to fight more in the championship, not like last year, and have the potential to make the life of Marc more hard, not like last year,”
emphasizing his intent to be a genuine contender this time around amid an influx of fast riders.
Preparations and Expectations for the Upcoming Season
While he has not yet gone into the finer technical details of the new Ducati machine, Bagnaia is confident in the direction the engineers have taken. He affirmed,
“I’m quite sure the new bike will be competitive.”
Alongside his teammates, Bagnaia is undertaking Superbike training sessions at Mandalika as part of the VR46 Academy’s efforts to sharpen their skills ahead of the season opener.
Anticipation Builds Ahead of the Official Sepang Test
The official Sepang test from February 3 to 5 is fast approaching, marking the next milestone in Bagnaia’s campaign to rebound. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see whether the Ducati rider can translate his offseason improvements into strong early-season results. With strong backing from Ducati and the VR46 Academy, Bagnaia looks poised to reassert himself among the sport’s elite and intensify the battle for the 2026 MotoGP crown.
