Brad Binder Admits Pedro Acosta’s MotoGP Pace Is Unmatched

At the recent Thailand Grand Prix in Buriram, Pedro Acosta once again demonstrated why he is at the forefront of the MotoGP World Championship, displaying remarkable speed and consistency. South African rider Brad Binder acknowledged Acosta’s unmatched pace, reflecting on the challenging competition and his own progress amid a fiercely contested weekend.

Acosta and Márquez Dominate in Buriram

The event witnessed an electrifying clash between seasoned rider Marc Márquez on his Ducati and the rising star Pedro Acosta piloting a KTM. Acosta claimed victory in the sprint race and secured an impressive second place in the longer Sunday race, solidifying his position atop the championship rankings. Meanwhile, Maverick Viñales endured a tough weekend with finishes of 19th in the sprint and 16th in the main race, while teammate Enea Bastianini struggled to gain traction, finishing 17th and 11th respectively.

Brad Binder Shows Determination Despite Starting Challenges

Starting from 11th on the grid, Brad Binder delivered resilient performances by finishing sixth in the sprint and seventh in the main event. Although he expressed moderate satisfaction with these results, he recognized room for improvement.

“I obviously would have preferred better than a sixth and a seventh,”

Binder admitted. He also highlighted the steady progress in what he called a difficult season, noting,

“I think we need to keep progressing gradually. It was great to go straight to Q2, and I had two decent races. Sixth and seventh from 11th is solid. The main race was tougher than the sprint for me, but overall, it was pretty good. It’s a solid start; the bike clearly has potential. Pedro has shown that brilliantly. We will keep working and see if we can rise up the ranks.”

Significant Gap Between Binder and Acosta’s Lap Times

The timing data revealed a substantial difference between Binder and Acosta’s performance levels. During Q2, Acosta was 0.341 seconds faster on the fastest lap. The gap widened dramatically over race distances, with Acosta finishing 4.612 seconds ahead in the 13-lap sprint and 11.820 seconds clear in the longer race. Acknowledging this, Binder commented honestly on Acosta’s exceptional pace, especially in longer stretches:

“I’m much closer than last year, I can assure you! But his pace this morning was incredible. When I saw his long run in Free Practice 2, I thought, ‘Wow, this is insane!’ I still have a long way to go to reach that level, but I haven’t been this close in a while. We need to maintain this momentum.”

Improvements in Binder’s Bike Handling and Confidence

Reflecting on his current season, Brad Binder highlighted significant gains in bike stability and handling compared to last year. He noted that enhanced braking and better cornering have contributed greatly to his improved performances.

“For me, the biggest difference is that you can brake better with both wheels. You can stop a bit more effectively. When you take the angle in the corner, you have a bit more margin at the front, and it turns a little faster. That’s the biggest change. When you straighten up, the bike accelerates better because you have less angle,”

Binder explained.

Anticipation Builds for Upcoming MotoGP Challenges

As Binder continues refining his approach and closing gaps, the championship battle is expected to grow more thrilling. Fans eagerly await the next races, where these riders will aim to push their limits further and shift the championship standings once again.
