Bubba Wallace May Miss NASCAR Race for Baby Birth Plans

Bubba Wallace, the prominent NASCAR driver for 23XI Racing, is facing a possible absence from a NASCAR Cup Series race this month as he and his wife Amanda anticipate the arrival of their second child. This new addition to their family is expected to coincide with the March 21 Sport Clips Haircuts 200 race at Darlington, leading 23XI Racing to prepare for Wallace’s potential unavailability during this event.

Wallace, 32, and Amanda already have one son, Becks Hayden Wallace, born in September 2024. The birth of their first child brought a hopeful boost to Wallace’s career after missing the playoffs that season, and the family now prepares to welcome a daughter.

Strong Start to the Season Amid Personal Milestones

This season, 23XI Racing has started intensely, with teammate Tyler Reddick winning the first three races at Daytona, Atlanta, and COTA. Wallace himself has been consistently competitive, narrowly missing wins in the first two events. His race finishes—10th, 8th, and 11th—have secured him a solid second place in the championship standings, trailing Reddick by 70 points.

Wallace’s growth as a driver and individual has drawn praise from team co-owner and rival Denny Hamlin, who highlighted the positive changes in Wallace since becoming a father. Wallace experienced a memorable moment winning the Brickyard 400 in Indianapolis last season, celebrating alongside Amanda and their son in Victory Lane.

Careful Planning for Wallace’s Possible Race Absence

Given Wallace’s family commitments, 23XI Racing is organizing contingency plans should he need to miss the Darlington race. Freddie Kraft, Wallace’s spotter, explained on the Door Bumper Clear podcast that there are three different scenarios being considered depending on the timing of the birth and Wallace’s availability.

He’s gonna have a baby here in the next month. We’re making plans for him probably missing a race if he has to,

Kraft said.

In one scenario, should Amanda’s labor coincide directly with race preparations, backup driver Corey Heim could step in, with the team having limited time to prepare the car for him.

Wallace is committed to being present for the birth, having missed Becks’s arrival and determined not to repeat that experience.

We’ve made the decision. I unfortunately missed the birth of my first kid; I’m not missing the second one,

Wallace stated.

Backup Drivers and Team Readiness for Unexpected Changes

Kraft also pointed out that if Wallace must leave abruptly during the Darlington race weekend, the team will activate their backup plans. The situation requires quick adaptability to ensure 23XI Racing remains competitive despite any last-minute driver changes.

So, if he has to leave Darlington in a hurry, it’s gonna be somebody else.

Kraft added.

This approach parallels a recent instance in Atlanta when Tyler Reddick was unwell, and Ryan Truex was prepared to take his place if necessary.

Truex was there last week cuz Tyler was not feeling well before the Atlanta race. So he was there in case,

Kraft revealed.

Implications for the Team and NASCAR Season

Bubba Wallace’s potential absence during one of the crucial races this season highlights the balancing act between professional commitments and significant family moments. 23XI Racing’s preparations demonstrate the team’s dedication to maintaining strong performance while supporting their driver’s personal priorities.

This situation also underscores the pressures drivers face within NASCAR’s tight schedules and competitive environment. How effectively 23XI adapts to this challenge could influence Wallace’s standing in the championship and the team’s overall success in a season that has already shown intense competition between teammates.
