Chase Briscoe’s challenges this season worsened at Phoenix Raceway when he crashed into the outside wall after suffering a right front tire blowout on Lap 132. Running in third place at the time, Briscoe had reported a growing vibration to his team before the tire failure ended his race early. This incident further dropped him down the points standings and prevented any momentum after a difficult start to the year.
Details of the Phoenix Incident and Immediate Aftermath
Despite efforts to bring the car back to the garage area known as the DVP zone, Briscoe’s team was unable to repair the damage. He finished 37th, marking his second straight race without completing the event. Video footage captured the moment the No. 19 car collided with the wall while Briscoe was still in a strong position.

After leaving the infield care center, Briscoe reflected on the crash, saying,
“I’ve only seen the replay one time, it almost looked like something in my left front.”
He added,
“When I had my vibration, I told them that I thought it was in the front end. Just par for the course for how this year started.”
Season Overview: From Early Promise to Mounting Frustrations
Last year, Briscoe had an impressive run that saw him make the Championship 4 after winning three races, but 2026 has been markedly different. His season began with a strong qualifying effort, securing second place for the Daytona 500. However, a multi-car crash during the race dropped him to a disappointing 36th place with minimal points earned.
The following race showed improvement when Briscoe claimed second place at Atlanta Motor Speedway, finishing behind Tyler Reddick and gaining a solid points haul. Still, the momentum did not last long.
At Circuit of the Americas, Briscoe stayed competitive inside the top 10, but a mechanical failure forced an early exit to the garage, limiting his points once again. Heading into Phoenix, he ranked 27th in the standings and was 22 points outside of championship contention, with the recent crash doing no favors to his standing.
Looking Forward: Focusing on Points and Recovery
With the win-and-in system removed this season, Briscoe’s chance to leap directly into The Chase has vanished, increasing the pressure to consistently collect points. His focus now shifts toward steady performance to climb the rankings, although recent setbacks add tension and frustration to the team’s efforts. The coming races will be critical for Briscoe and the Bass Pro Shops Toyota squad as they strive to reverse the recent downward trend and regain competitiveness in the Cup Series.
