Defending Cook Out Clash champion Chase Elliott recently shared insights on what contributed to his victory last year and what strategies will be crucial for the upcoming 2026 exhibition race at Bowman Gray Stadium. Elliott emphasized that strong preparation before the race day is essential to securing a winning edge on the track.
Competing on Bowman Gray’s challenging 0.25-mile short track, where close quarters often lead to contact and intense rivalries, Elliott stressed that maintaining good track position is a critical advantage. During the 2025 event, he and his Hendrick Motorsports #9 team executed this approach with precision, earning the pole position after winning the first heat qualifying race and avoiding mid-pack collisions.
Reflecting on his experience during FOX Sports’ production day prior to the 2026 Clash, Elliott detailed the elements that contributed to last year’s smooth performance and what would be necessary to replicate that success.
“It was a really smooth weekend for us, and I think that was probably the biggest takeaway. I think going back was qualifying well and setting a shift well for your heat race. You know, got us just into a great position to have good track position all night. I don’t necessarily think that’s the be-all and end-all. I think Ryan kind of debunked that with his performance in the main. But certainly, it would be nice to get off to good start again this year. I think we could do that.” Elliott told Bob Pockrass.
Recalling the Atmosphere and Excitement from Last Year’s Cook Out Clash
At Bowman Gray Stadium last year, Chase Elliott started at the front after securing the pole, following a heat race victory on Saturday night. He went on to lead 171 of the 200 laps, holding off fierce challenges from fellow competitors Ryan Blaney and Denny Hamlin throughout the latter stages of the race.

Elliott expressed enthusiasm for the atmosphere surrounding the event, highlighting the vibrant energy from fans and participants alike.
“I thought that the atmosphere was great and obviously we won and that was awesome but you know taking that out of the equation I really thought it was. I thought it was a great and very energetic turnout for what we had going on.” Elliott said.
The Dawsonville, Georgia native concluded the 2025 season ranked eighth in the overall standings, recording two wins, 11 top-five finishes, 19 top-10 results, and leading 454 laps in total.
