Joey Logano Drifts His Vintage Ford Model T in Snow

During the recent snowy weather, NASCAR star Joey Logano took advantage of the offseason by driving his 1924 Ford Model T around his North Carolina driveway with his wife Brittany and their children, Hudson, Jameson, and Emilia. This outing showcased the three-time Cup Series champion’s rare vehicle in a unique setting, highlighting the retro car’s charm and the family’s enjoyment.

Logano’s Diverse Car Collection and Snow Day Choice

At 35 years old, Logano is known for his extensive car collection, which includes a Ford GT, Mustang, and an eye-catching Econoline Pickup. Despite these impressive rides, he reserved them for the warmer season and instead took the Model T out in the recent cold snap. His choice stood out given the car’s age, wooden wheels, and leaf spring suspension, creating a striking image as he skillfully maneuvered it on snow and ice.

Unique Challenges of Driving the Ford Model T

In a video shared on social media, Logano drifted the Model T around his driveway, demonstrating considerable control despite the vehicle’s unconventional mechanics. The 1924 Ford Model T, with its wooden spoked wheels and narrow tires, lacks modern stability and maximum speeds – it tops out at about 25 miles per hour. Logano described the driving experience as challenging yet thrilling, highlighting how the car operates opposite to modern samochody.

“This, I am being honest with you, is my favorite car in my collection,”

Logano said in a 2021 YouTube video.

“It’s the most challenging car to drive. It is way outside the box, but it’s what made Ford Ford.  It’s what put them on the map.”

He added,

“This thing is a blast, but it is a beast to drive. It is backwards of everything you typically do in your car.”

Family Time and Driving Safety in the Model T

Driving the Model T also involves careful attention to safety, especially given its vintage design. Logano pointed out that the vehicle lacks modern features such as roll-up windows and has extremely narrow tires resembling bicycle wheels. This design makes the car less stable compared to contemporary vehicles.

“Who’s got wooden wheels these days? And the width of the tire it’s like a bicycle. I’ve seen mountain bikes with tires wider than this, so as you can imagine, something high, narrow, and a very skinny tire, it’s not very stable,”

Logano remarked.

Despite these challenges, the car offers a unique way to enjoy a slow cruise, as Logano explained,

“It is a lot of fun to put your wife in there, go for a date, go for a little cruise, you don’t want to go too far because you’re not going to get anywhere too quick, and you got to make sure the weather is good because the windows don’t roll up.”

Polaris Off-Road Fun and Winter Activities with Family

Besides the Model T, Logano also shared footage of himself performing donuts in his Polaris vehicle on the snowy driveway, showing his enthusiasm for winter fun. The Team Penske driver also filmed his son Hudson racing across the property in a Polaris off-road vehicle. The young driver tackled the slippery surface with determination but eventually spun out, delighting his dad.

“Come on… You know I couldn’t go a full snow day without some [donuts],”

Logano captioned one of his videos.

“Hudson joined in on the icy Time Trials,”

he added.

The Importance of Classic Cars and Family Moments in NASCAR Offseason

Joey Logano’s decision to take out his 1924 Ford Model T amid the winter showcases both his love for vintage automobiles and family engagement during NASCAR’s quieter months. Combining nostalgia with practical fun, the experience emphasizes a connection to automotive history and the joy of sharing those moments with loved ones. With the racing season still to come, such off-track activities provide a refreshing break while allowing fans a glimpse into the personal side of a prominent racing figure.
